I just picked this telescope up used for $279 US. Well, it was listed as used anyway - came in the original packaging, with all accessories still in original packaging. Maybe very light use by prior owner, if any (I had to degrease the rack and pinion focuser, as it was still coated in grease from the factory). Amazingly cool little scope, easy to set up and great views, especially when paired with the Revolution Imager R2. The tripod is a little on the shaky side, but hanging a 5 lb. sandbag from the center fixed that issue straightaway. Extremely happy with this scope.

Hi Unless you really need a combined terrestrial and astro telescope, I'd give the ETX-80 a swerve as it only makes sense if if you want hybrid usage and portability. A long focus instrument like the StarNavigator 102 will easily out-perform any of the ETX short focus refractors when looking at the night sky. Hope this helps. KR A&NC

I bought this scope a year ago and can say it is very good. It is easy to use and is very stable too. The integrated tray on the tripod really helps. The scope can be moved manually as well without causing damage to the motor. I also purchased a meade 2 x barlow lens as well which really helps. I can see up to three bands on jupiter, and saturn appears very impressive as well. I have managed to also connect my scope to a 12v car battery as the 8 x AA batteries would not last long due to the sco

Thanks for making the video! A friend had this same telescope and didnt use it so he gave it me. But I got it without instructions, and since i never had a telescope, i didnt know how to use it. But now I do and im off to see the night sky! Thanks again.

Was highly considering Celestron's 102mm GT but this one has taken the lead with the audio feature. Excellent for young children in the field. If the optics perform as advertised then this is going to be one heck of a purchase.

I bought this as my first telescope; at first I liked it a lot, but after using it awhile I became very disappointed.
It is so light weight that even a slight breeze makes the image wiggle, and higher magnifications are very difficult.
I've seen reviews of this scope that rave about the focuser; you've got to be kidding. At higher magnifications the slop in the focuser causes the object to leave the field of view when changing directions with the knob. And again the light weight causes the image to wiggle so much by just touching the focuser that you can't even tell when you've got it in focus.
Overall very frustrating to use IMO.
But it has fueled my casual interest in astronomy. I've put a spring from ACE hardware on it in such a way to help take the slack out of the focuser; I hang ankle weights on it to help steady it, and I'm adding a 9x50 finder scope to help find things when the goto doesn't work well.
I guess it will do until I can save up for a real telescope.

@bicnarok Hi - thanks for your post. It runs on 8 AA cells but they can be replaced with a mains power unit that delivers 12V DC at about 1.2amps. The cable to connect the mains PSU will need to terminate in a PP3 snap-on type connector. Hope this helps. KR A&NC

@BEENOBAGO Don't Panic! Not yet anyway. Go to the Utilities Menu and scroll down to Language and press enter. You should be given at least one other option and this should be English. Hope this helps. KR A&NC

I have the older version of that exact telescope and it works great, I have a meade camera attachment. My question is theres another lens that says uv protection. Is that for daytime or looking at the sun? Someone gave me the telescope and a bunch of accessories. Any help is appreciated it has the older style controller BTW

Hi. Would you recommend this or the Etx80? I'm completely new to astronomy and they both look very good. Thanks Goto

I picked up a used DS2090. Autostar isn't accurate despite 2 star setup so I gave up on it. The tripod is too low for a long tripod. Also, it shakes too much when focusing. Moved the scope to a Celestron Heavy Duty Alt/AZ mount which is steadier.
