I attended an Ivy League college, and one of the janitors was a refugee. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering in his home country. He was once a respected professor, but his credentials meant nothing in the American job market. However, he would get so much joy from explaining organic chemistry to struggling students, and you could see how his face lit up in those moments. Also, there's nothing wrong with being a janitor or cleaner - that is one of the most essential jobs in society.

She should have hired the maid as a tutor and given her a higher wage. Find a maid that doesn’t have a PhD in engineering.

The maid is definitely smarter than the mum😭😭🙏🏿🙏🏿

Juanita got her attitude from Gabby. I hate Gabby a lot of times. She couldn't stand that her maid is more eligible than her.

I never watched this show but from the shorts, she's insufferable.

No wonder the kid is such a spoiled brat when the mom acts like this towards the people around her. Have some respect for the people that do the jobs you feel like you're too good for

This. So so important. I live in Canada. Our laws and regulations are BS. Took a driver a couple months back from Yemen who fled to get away from the violence. He was a mechanical engineer and his degree meant nothing in my country so he was forced to become a driver or go on welfare to survive.

Don't judge a book by it's cover.

I always found it obscure how the US doesn’t validate the people who earned their degrees from other countries. When I was little my mom told me her dream was being a news anchor and she had all the qualifications to become one but, since her degree was from Mexico, it wasn’t allowed here. It breaks my heart, not only for her but for every person that has worked so hard for their dream to come true.

I used to scrub the toliet while holding a bechalor degree of Liberal Arts in British and American studied - International Relationship major, from one of the top three best universities in my country just because I'm a certificate student in Australia. Felt bad for a while but still have to do just to prove to mom and dad that I am a grown up woman who can take care of herself.

The woman is too kind to punish the little girl for her mother's ignorance. But she should have refused to help tutor the child unless she was paid a respectable wage as a DOCTOR.

My mom used to make a lot of money in her home country with a degree in engineering but when she came here they didn’t accept her credentials 😢 But she is so smart and so good at science and math!! So she made a new start and went to college in America and is getting a degree in computer science to make money for us 🙂 I love her!!!

So Rude! She should of apologized to Dr Ivana profusely for her offhanded comments and addressed her as Dr. in all further interactions. She should’ve offered her a job recommendation from her wealthy husband to help her get a job at an engineering site. She should have doubled her pay until she found something, then hired her as a private tutor instead of her maid. Nobody deserves to have their talents and years of hard work diminished because of where they come from.

The first reason why this happens is because to start Americans get scammed for higher education and is cheaper to receive a degree anywhere else. So they make any immigrant jump loops and hoops to try and validate any education, since it would flood the job market with debtless people (from student loans) or make them go study abroad. Although this just protects the harder and more profitable careers (like doctors).

The second reason is ironic, because is the exact opposite. companies know that they can pay less to immigrants if they have the skills but not the paper recognition or safety net of an American graduate. So they get a cheap underpaid workforce from them.

I hated that episode, she got the janitor fired and she learned nothing from the whole thing.

i hate how realistic this is.. not everyone who gets a degree lands a well paid job and most time they will get abused by horrible bosses like this one..
