It refers to the subconscious phenomenon where individuals tend to be influenced by their previous judgments of performance or personality.

Although it is a cognitive bias, you can use this insight to your benefit in a job interview, on your first day in a new role or anytime you want to leave a lasting impression.

Identifying areas of commonality not only helps to foster connection, it can also positively ‘spill over’ and influence that person’s perception of you in other areas.

ACTION:
Next time you come to interact with someone, make an effort to connect through areas of commonality, and explore these together.
