This week Smallville goes back to 1961 as Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum revisit Season 3 Episode 6: RELIC!

Tom talks about the big reveals in this episode, finding out that Jonathan is the ‘actual’ chosen one, Lionel has deeper roots to Smallville, and Lana clearly would accept Clark as he is.

Michael talks about why he didn’t play a Luthor in the throwback scenes and how Chloe has done a 180 this season in terms of likability.

And of course, we get a visit from our very own Jor-el, the one and only Al Gough!

Tom really seemed engaged in this episode in such a great way! Not that he hasn’t before, but his discussions on fatherhood and Jonathon’s role in Clark’s life was SO great. I love when everybody is this engaged in an episode

I’m a Ryan fan, but Bryce is adding so much to this episode. He’s asking questions, making observations, and is great with the memory about past episodes. Please consider adding him full time, great ep!

I DO NOT get tired of Al being able to recall the specifics of his show almost 20 years later! 👏🏽

Tom Welling playing a younger version of Jor-El and Kristen Kruek as Lana's aunt just perfect. Time period storylines are my favorite and the whole 60s backdrop looked so good. It's all in the cinematography.

It’s official: Al Gough is Talkville’s “Jor-Al.” Whenever he comes on, my ears always perk up. So much insight and warmth, and he’s just fun to listen to.

Also, as someone who is adopting a child, I really appreciate seeing the parent/child relationship with Jonathan & Martha and Clark. He is their child, period. And I so appreciate that.

Every episode reminds me how much I frickin love this show.

Tom brings a perfect balance of uncertainty and innocence vs. man of steel.

And Michael? The best Lex that has ever been on screen.

Another great call with Al Gough. Alot of Smallville fans tend to forget Lionel was created for the show because in the comics Lex only speaks vaguely about his dad but his dad didn't have a name or story. Great re-envisioning.

Al’s encyclopedic knowledge of the show is always impressive. He even knew which episode (6) Relic was talking to Michael.

Tom's insight into this episode is fascinating! I know it was years ago, but as we move into further episodes into this show, I'm looking forward to Tom's recollection and insight more and more!

This was always one of my favorite episodes because of the chills I got when we learned of Clark's father and the reason why he ended up in Smallville! Amazing writing, acting, all around great episode.

One of my favorite episodes of all time Tom and Kristen were fantastic

I absolutely love how Al and Miles were so reverent with the Superman myth and kept it so pure. The giving Lionel one of Lex’s backstories… I’m still nerding out about it.

One of my favorite episode of the series. For me "Relic" is one of those great episodes that represent the essence of Smallville because it dive into the origins stories of the main characcters and has a piece of mythology. What I love most about this episode are the flashbacks scenes with Jo and Louise parallels with Clark & Lana, Hiram Kent & Jorel and Clark & Jonathan scenes. The reveal that Jonathan was chosen by Jorel was powerful. Tom and Kristin were fantastic in this ep they showed their range and their chemistry was intense and beautiful. The scene of Jo showing his powers to Louise by flying with her in his arms is one of my all time fave scene of the series. The actor who played Hiram Kent was so likeable, with just a couple scenes we could feel that Hiram was a good man, great casting.
PS: Michael there is no such things as too much makeout scenes when the 2 actors playing Jo and Louise have this much chemistry! These were 🔥and these were the only heavy makeout scenes of this season so they really didn't overdoing it with those.

This, by far, was the best breakdown of an episode. Tom really brought it, and Al, with all the behind the scenes information, is so good.

Personally I remember absolutely loving this episode in particular because of the love tenderness Joe and Louise shared, reflecting on Clark and Lana's chemistry. When Joe met Louise, despite all the interruptions, he couldn't take his eyes off of her, Tom and Kristin played that off very well. Thanks again you guys ❤️

I think Tom is finally starting to enjoy the show haha. He seemed really happy to be there and he was catching things that only a fan would catch. Love to see it! Side Note: Al & Miles' choice to make Jor-El choose to send his son to the Kent's rather than it being random was one of my favorite creative changes they ever made.

10:41 Tom, I love this sentiment about Lana. And it made me think back to the whole show and how the women in Clark’s life really propelled him into who he became.
Lana never gave up on him and sacrificed herself to save him and others - essentially; Chloe stuck by his side up until the end, helping him in metropolis, and Lois was quite literally his #1 fan and kept him safe.

Pete left, Lex turned against him. It’s just so cool being an adult now to look back at how strong and capable and complex these women were!

Martha was obviously great too 🥰

“I didn’t hate this episode”

*Insert skeptical look from Tom that is all of us at this point*

This is one of the BEST episodes of the whole series. It’s memorable, there’s a murder mystery, a love affair, family history all coming together and secrets being revealed. The cinematography, especially the scene where Joe flies Louise into the night sky is perfection.. and later in the season this scene is replicated in a way. It’s just such a substantial and juicy episode!!

I was worried y’all would tear it apart and I’m so so happy Tom loved it and Rosie came around and Al bolstered it as well.

Bryce can take a hike 😂jkjk

Also my favorite podcast episode so far! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
