Overworked, stressed and keeping it together in life and death situations. He gave a true response.

"For patients or staff?"
"Yes."

As a retired ICU/ER nurse, he’s right on. Lots of sarcasm, lots of darkly funny humor, and more than a few prayers to get through shifts.

Interestingly, it was listening to nurses go through the mental health questionnaire with patients that made me seek professional help. I was a phlebotomist at the time, and mentally answering yes to all those questions was eye opening.

Best part is he said it without thinking.

Laughing, as a retired nurse, definitely check the staff.

I mean that's a valid question. Doctors and medical workers have highest suicide

We had a close friend and doctor recently kill himself. Using the suicide tool on staff is very valid and important.

I work at an insurance agency; one of our customers is moving to a new house and wanted a quote. She was extremely agitated and such. I talked to my boss; he drops a bomb shell on me - her child and her husband lost their lives within the last three months. Her husband was in an accident and her son took his life.

After declining my calls, she finally answered. I mentioned the quote but immediately started apologizing for missing the cues in her voice that something was wrong. Don't tell my boss this, but she and I talked for almost 45mins. She got her aura back; I hope and pray she uses it to guide others in honor and memory of her child.

Please, if you have lost someone or see someone suffering, advocate for mental health awareness. Our fight isn't over, especially not with society's skewed views of it.

I know this is comedy but I bet nursing managers think all of their staff is OK. A lot of us that were considered essential employees aren't ok.

I've heard that most healthcare staff do not report thoughts of harming themselves because they'd risk getting fired or having that information used professionally against them

Anytime a situation like this happens I always just go "why? What? Huhhh?" Like nothing just happened there 💀

Mental health is for everyone. The stigma that workers don’t get it or to just deal with it is slowly lifting. It’s ok to seek counseling and or therapy yall.

Bold of you to assume the staff aren’t patients

Funny story, I got a primary for the first time in like....6 years and they asked me those kind of questions. See with my therapist, she encouraged my dark humor as a way to cope with my trauma because if you don't laugh you'll cry. So he asks me "have you ever had thoughts of SI or self harm" and I just casually "I think about throwing myself off the closest highrise at least 10 times per day."
Just a friendly note, when you get a new doctor, and you have a twisted sense of humor, just don't. I had to convince this man I was fine and not to send me for a pysch hold

Need that in all workplaces. 2 of my co workers were screaming at each other tonight over plastic bags. One got sent home. 😂

I laughed at this harder than I should have

Well, in my country (idk about anywhere else), doctors have the highest suicide rates of any profession, so this question really isn't out of place.

I've seen nurses completely break down lately. This hits hard
