We all know that one day the Queen in her old age will eventually pass. But she had become a constant for the people of the UK for 70 years and losing her would really be a shock. It's like having known your grandmother all your life and she had always been there until she died and the world suddenly spun off its axis. Things will never be the same, and all we could do is embrace the change. My sincerest condolences to the Royal Family and to the people of the UK.

The lady from Germany was so sweet. Her reaction was heartbreaking, but it goes to show that the Queen touched so many people beyond just the British.

"She reigned for 70 years - that's the kind of thing you have in storybooks." This stopped me in my tracks. What a poignant observation.

She lived through WW2, she was the reigning monarch of the UK for 7 decades, she lived an entire century, overseeing her country and the world as it developed and changed rapidly over the decades. Crazy when you put it into perspective.

I'm not really a monarchist but I have felt sad today. The Queen is someone who's lived through generations. My nan was a child when she was crowned and I remember my Mum taking me to London as a child to see the Princess Diana memorial. We'd always watch the Queen's speech every Christmas. She was a constant in many people's lives.

I am german, but I lived several years in the UK and know how important the Queen was for the folk.
I can only imagine the pain and lost and feel very sorry about it. My deepest sympathy for you all!

As a Canadian I've spent my entire life seeing the Queen's face looking out on everything from stamps to bills. Seeing her portraits change over the years as I'd grown older, and she had grown older too. She faced everything with such grace. Two little girls were near the magazines at the pharmacy yesterday and one pointed at an article cover and said proudly "That's Queen Elizabeth II when she was younger!" And I realized that like me they had also grown up with the Queen. She was truly an iconic figure. I don't know how I'll feel the first time I hold a bill with King Charles on it, but I know it won't be the same. To the rest of my Commonwealth family that may be mourning around the world - I'll be thinking of you!

I’m 56 and live “across the pond.” I have never known another British monarch in my lifetime. Greatest condolences to the people of the UK.

Some people don’t get it. It’s weirdly irrelevant whether you love or despise the royal family. The queen just brought this sense of stability to us and she was always there.

I was born in 1952, so Elizabeth was my Queen for my whole life at that time. I had moved to America in 1967, but never lost my affection for her. I cried my eyes out for a while and was saddened for weeks. I'm tearing up again as I write this.

My heartfelt condolences to the UK. I'm from Portugal, where her majesty visited twice. The first time in the 1950s. A huge crowd gathered to welcome her when she arrived, among them our current president who was just a little boy at the time. He met with her majesty recently, just a couple years ago and the Queen mentioned how well received she had been back than. Truly a world icon spanning several generations.

Despite her age it was a shock. Still is.

I’m Canadian so she was our Queen too. Saw her back in 1973 when I was a very young child and I can still visualize her car driving by as I waved.

Whether or not you were part of the Commonwealth, she was a constant for so many in the world. She exemplified so much and we thank her for her service. May she Rest In Peace.

"I am honored to have lived under her reign" is really a beautiful sentiment.

I'm an American, and I was in London sitting in a pub when the news came across the televisions. I will never, ever forget that moment as long as I live. While not British or a royalist per se, I felt and knew the enormity of it. What an incredible life lived by that lady.

As a Brit. I found out on the train on the way from school to London, it was insane. Everything just went quiet and you kept hearing gasps or quiet crying. It was so so sad.

I am in TN, USA. I remember seeing the Queen and family on one of the earliest TV's ever. Charles is six months older than me. I have loved the Queen from that first moment and want you to know she has millions of fans in the U.S. We will miss her dearly.
