'One Day I'll Fly Away' - Randy Crawford (HQ)

After 150,000 views of the original upload (1,2 million by now!!), I thought it was time to upload a copy with better sound. On the old upload Randy's voice unfortunately sounded a bit choppy, because of audio compression (inspite of directing folks over to this improved upload, they don't seem to leave the old one alone though!;). Anyhow; hope you will enjoy this improved upload even better (higher bit-rate and slightly increased volume). Peace.

Joe Sample flew away from Houston on Septermber 12, 2014. The general public primarily knew him from the track 'Streetlife' that he composed with Will Jennings and performed with The Crusaders.

Sample reached the age of 75, and had played the piano since he was five years old.

With some classmates Sample formed The Jazz Crusaders, which later became The Crusaders. In 1979 they released their worldwide hit Streetlife, with vocals by Randy Crawford.

During his fifty-year career Sample recorded 21 solo albums. He also wrote music for several other musicians and played alongside legends Miles Davis, Marvin Gaye, BB King and Joni Mitchell, to name but a few. Joe Sample became and will forever be legend of his own. May he rest in peace, God bless and comfort his loved ones.

I saw Randy Crawford in NYC at the Beacon Theater in the 1990's. She walked onto the stage, put her pocketbook next to the microphone, belted out one of the best live performances I've ever seen, said thank you, then picked up her pocketbook and left the stage. She's ALL about the voice. Amazing stuff!

Randy Crawford is the ultimate vocalist in my opinion. She is unmatched when it comes to pure quality of tonality and vocal control. Her voice always takes me away to that special place. I have been listening since the first time I’ve heard one of her songs and slowly accumulated her albums, CDs, anything I can get just to hear her sing. Always makes me teary eyed to listen to this song. Brings back so many mix memories. Will continue to listen to her and appreciate her artistry and the incomparable talent of Joe sample. Just magic.
