One skim coat is enough to remove the texture

A textured wall was skim-coated with mud after sanding, this resulted in a smooth wall ready for the primer or paint. Prepping the wall by sanding makes all the difference and saves a lot of mud and hard work.

One skim coat is enough to remove the texture, but it doesn't mean you are done. That wall needed a second coat to cover the holes left from the first coat and sanding.... then there could be a third finishing coat if the second didn't take.

it is best to check if the popcorn ceiling has asbestos before even sanding especially for very old houses

Great video, thank you. I have a general question. For removing textures, I see the skim coating, and also there are motorized drywall sanders for knocking down the texture. Most videos don't seem to use the motorized sander. So... Which is it? Is it just a series of skim coat layers or should I use a motorized sander first?
