The point is no one was held accountable for a duration of 20 years … Incredible 😥

I've read the book n watched the films. It turn out the man who reported her hated her with a passion. As her husband died he wanted her removed from the crown so nobody can truthfully say these tales are true or not.

A Dr. researched for 4 years the case against her. She said she was framed. They wanted her land and castle. She had a printing press, etc. She was hated for being a feminist according to the researcher.

My family Potocki, was instrumental in keeping her at her Castle instead of being put to death. Because there was no evidence against her, that stood up. The man in question, had his men kill young noble girls in transit, headed for Countess Bathory's Castle, robbed them of all their riches! Few made it to Countess Elizabeth's classes at all! The SOB would try and knock off the rest, on their way back home.
Poor Lady Bathory, truly has no idea what was going on.
As for her looking youthful? I personally have been accused of being a vampire, even kicked out of an apartment, for being 5 days late just once, in 2 years.
Turns out that I have a connective tissue disorder that I inherited, called, "Hypermobile Ehler Danlos Syndrome." I have too much collagen in my body, so my face exhibits that.
I do believe that this is where much of the Vampire fantasies come from, as I also suffer from Anemia & other issues. Sunlight hurts my eyes, but colored contacts block the pain now.
Everyone should dissect unsubstantiated rumors, instead of blindly accepting them.
The truth is oft much more fascinating!

Perfect example of how awful people rewrite history and then the rumors grow and grow more and more sensationalized.
Just another example of how women get blamed, abused, stolen from and villified.

It has never been proved that she killed anyone. There are no remains anywhere near her castle and no records of missed girls at the moment. With the population of that time (much lower than nowadays) the disapparation of 600 girls would have been greatly noticed 😂

I believe she was framed. The king owed her a ton of money that he had borrowed from Elizabeth's late husband. This was a way to neutralize a woman who was way too powerful.

Yes, very wealthy widow, accused of murder by powerful men, imprisoned without trial and property went to the state i.e her accusers....

Everyone who accused her was tortured to do so tho. Also it was during the plague years.the king owed her money . She had more land and money than him. She was widowed. Honestly she was easy pickings.

I believe when she asked the king for the borrowed fortune her late husband had handed the crown that he retaliated against her for a woman having the audacity.

This is a horrific fantasy created to destroy this woman. She actually worked to improve the lives and welfare of women. This was not a common attitude at the time. Basic health-care was almost non existant and care directed specifically at women was unheard of. It was this " unusual " interest that made her a target of her detractors. The fact that she may have treated and tried to help young women and children who were victims of rape by powerful men may also have angered these men.

While documents from the 1611 trial supported the accusations made against her, modern scholarship has questioned the veracity of the allegations. Báthory was a powerful woman, made more so by her control of Nádasdy’s holdings after his death. The fact that a large debt owed by Matthias to Báthory was canceled by her family in exchange for permitting them to manage her captivity suggests that the acts attributed to her were politically motivated slander that allowed relatives to appropriate her lands. Found this online. I'd believe it too.

It’s believed that this whole story was just a rumor by her enemies. I’m not sure, I wasn’t there, but either way it’s interesting.

I went to Castle Čachtice a couple years ago. I just plugged it into the map app and drove right up to it. It’s a beautiful spot, and they’ve assembled some exhibits in the existing rooms there. I honestly believe she was framed.

this is on the same level as Marie Antoinette saying: "If they don't have bread, let them eat cake". she never said that. And this woman never killed her servants.

The comments are fascinating, and I will definitely look deeper into this. Thank you.

Except that there's no actual proof she did it and her MALE relatives all had something to gain from her getting in trouble. She was one of the richest women in the country and we can't have that, can we?

I’m so glad that many in the comments are speaking up for this woman. It must be terrible to be spoken about so negatively without true facts.

She never killed anyone. She was a victim. She was framed.
