Wootz steel is steel produced by a secret method known only in ancient India. Wootz steel produced in what is today Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in southern India became famous around the world as the best steel to make swords which were unbreakable, malleable and yet incredibly sharp. It is Wootz steel that created the legendary sword of Tipu Sultan of Mysore which could cut through steel armour easily.

The rod on crucible steel has a unique pattern that cannot be repeated!

Wootz steel is a crucible steel characterized by a pattern of bands and high carbon content. These bands are formed by sheets of microscopic carbides within a tempered martensite or pearlite matrix in higher carbon steel, or by ferrite and pearlite banding in lower carbon steels. It was a pioneering steel alloy invented in Southern India (Tamil nadu) in the mid-1st millennium BC and exported globally.

Hello, Thanks for showing what actually made Damascus steel. Not many people are aware that wootz steel originated from India but a small correction - It was not originated in Andra Pradesh or Telangana, it was originated in Kodumanal which is from Tamil nadu.

@0:44 cheras the tamil empire played a major role in designing the wootz steel. These all happened 2000+ years before.

Wootz steel was into use way before 300 BC so this claim of Tipu Sultan is wrong, you must try to find more credible sources when you are presenting info in video .

While I appreciate your effort in trying to make a video on Wootz steel, there are a few things you should be aware of. Wootz steel was not a great mystery known only to India. It was produced in India first, then production began in Persia almost 2000 years ago. It has been produced everywhere from Egypt, up to the region of modern Turkey and across to Mongolia. It wasn't a great secret either, how to make it has been published since at least the 2nd C BCE with many Persian recipes being published since that time. I won't pick your video apart further as that is not my intention. I suggest that next time you want to do another video on this subject that you consult the International Wootz Society who can give you more specific information about wootz steel and it's history.

Ancient Indian steel was called as wootz steel. It had a uniform composition of 1–1.6% carbon and could be heated and shaped into bars and used in making articles like swords. It originated in India from around 6th century BC. but why you showing Tipu Sultan keeping Sultan not made this, Tipu Sultan did not represent Indian culture and India, And this steel was made in India in the 6th century, neither Tipu Sultan nor Mughals came to India at that time and they have no contribution in making this steel. In making this steel, the kings of India and the artisans of India have a huge contribution in making this steel. Not the external invaders Mughal and Tipu Sultan contributed in this.
