Uber Adds Surcharge as Gas Prices Spike

Uber announced it will add a per-trip surcharge for both riders and deliveries, as skyrocketing gas prices put pressure on the people behind the wheel. Shawn Chitnis reports. (3-12-22)

Uber drivers are absorbing the high gasoline costs and its killing their business. RIDERS rates are too low and Uber executives profits are too high.
If drivers can't afford to drive then $.45-.55 surcharge doesn't begin to settle this gap. It seems like Uber can't do math.

Gas prices are also higher in California because of all the taxes we pay on gas. So for all of you in California who voted not to repeal the gas tax in 2018, thanks for nothing

What's really amazing is that those same oil companies made 173 billions in profit last year. There is only a high demand for gas. That's why they are raising the gas prices.

They actually started paying less for gas when this happened. Atleast doordash started throwing me extra gas money at the end of the week. uber dressed this up and they're acting like saviors. I'm finding it to be very insulting.

Good, surcharges had to come or there would be less rideshare, food delivery, or package drivers, what's crazy is we aren’t even in the high summertime prices, yet, one wonders how high prices we peak at after it's all said and done, rise like a rocket and drop like a feather, won’t work this time (there's the EV option this time around) and if they try, you will just see drivers cut out extra things, drive only as needed like for work (and, if shopping for a vehicle you will now have to really consider the EV option), use more public transportation, etc, it’s about 20 cents away from Hurricane Katrina prices, was 50 cents last week

That's Really an Insult to us Drivers! .45 to .55 per trip are you kidding! What makes most of the trips worth is the Tips and 1/of 10 riders will tip I'm definitely not giving a ride for $ 2-$3
