Every year ten of the world’s largest combines follow the cereal harvest of North America. Writer and Broadcaster Dylan Winter joins the team for the 5 month journey from Texas over the heartland of the United States to Lethbridge in Alberta Canada. The Payne family and their crew of 18 show what life on the road is like through their working days coordinating moves from site to site, coping with machinery on a grand scale, and progressing with humor and ingenuity through the unpredictable and evocative midwestern landscape. Dylan’s unconventional approach interprets this unique annual event as the ultimate harvest road movie.

This video is the reason i went out west to do it! After watching for several years i contacted Scott Payne and headed to imperial Nebraska. Scott and linda are the greatest of people and i am proud to call them friends! I first went on harvest in 2006, the best part of 2006 was doing this with my oldest son lee, I caught up with them a few different times for quick visits. But in 2016 i went out for 6 weeks with them in conrad Montana. Im so glad i did, because that ended up being their last year, i believe they had their sale in march of 17. Talked to him two weeks ago, he is doing well they are having their struggles with age, but they never let life get them down. Its their belief in our Lord that keeps them moving forward.

Great to see this again. This video sowed the seed with me to do the US harvest and I did finally go and do it with Buckner & Sons in 2002 out of Plainview, TX. Now I am 47 and it remains one of the best experiences of my life. I am so glad I did it when I had the chance.

Man, thanks for posting this, I've been looking forever for it. I remember watching in ag class in the early 00's and thinking how cool it'd be to go out west once. Had a couple guys i lived with in college who did it after graduation

I went on harvest run for three different years, all for different cutters. First was when I was 16 years old in 1999, and then 02, 03 First year was Texas, Kansas, Colorado and South Dakota. Second year was Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota. 3rd was Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota. Some great times back then. Work hard and play hard! It wasn't for everyone but if you were a restless youngster like myself and wanted to make a nice wage and learn alot this was the job.

I remember watching this year’s ago. Think it would be on vhs. I’m Scottish and the scale of everything was totally mesmerising to me.

I literally just prayed to the Lord, that if it be his will, to please let there be work like this in Heaven.

That service truck at 5:19 is sought out by a lot of people. Last I heard some farmer in Ohio owned it. Not sure the significance behind it. But I’ve seen several facebook posts about just that one truck and it’s how I found this movie.

Always love watching videos of the old harvesting crews, and some of the stuff they went through was wild to just get the crop in
