We are kicking off the creation of our second published cookbook and this time we are self-publishing so we can add all the best features book publishing has to offer! We will be posting these project updates to share the process of self-publishing and invite you, our awesome viewers, to join us in making the design decisions for the final book through community votes.

We have created a free course in our community platform as a place to share each update, welcome your comments, and offer votes on each major feature of the book.

This is going to be a fun and transparent process to show you what all goes in to creating a cookbook from start to finish. This project will culminate in us launching a Kickstarted campaign to fund the printing and distribution of the book and will be where you can get your copies. Could you please consider including alternatives to maple syrup in your recipes? There are some us who can't use syrups or regular sugar, so if you could give the equivalent in using fruit (say, raisins or dates), that would be very, very helpful!

I self published a technical book many years ago - I made more money than the best selling technical book at the time. The secret: Your real customers are resellers of the book. Have a high retail price markup for them. Place ads for them. So: Get a list of major potential distributors (health food stores?) and identify their local free paper. Create a tiny ad for your book for that paper (maybe with a run of 3 times and 1/3 column - negotiate.) Call the store and tell them you're placing an ad, and you'll add their name to the ad if they carry your book. Give them a good discount for qty 3 and high retail price so they can make a little more for their willingness to order from you directly. Send them the book when they agree - worry about the PO later (since you'll have a lot of books you're storing). I was carried at every technical bookstore worldwide at the time - and my book was used in courses by major universities. PS: I just received your first cookbook from Amazon today - love it. No cloth binding - it's hard to clean. Dust, grime, etc. 😁

The fabric binder gets dirty so go with the smooth traditional binder. You shouldn’t have do do a Kickstarter campaign for the new cookbook, since you can self publish through Amazon, which is what I did for all four of my books. The biggest expense is the editor and photographer fees.
