About:
Lethal Weapon is an American buddy cop action-comedy media franchise created by Shane Black. It focuses on two Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detectives, Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh. The franchise consists of a series of four films released between 1987 and 1998 and a television series which aired from 2016 to 2019. The four films were directed by Richard Donner and also share many of the same core cast members, while the television series is a reboot with different actors. Although the first film was not explicitly a comedy, the later films and the television series gradually became comedic in nature.

A proposed fifth Lethal Weapon film had been in talks and development since 2007, but has yet to make it into production. In September of 2022, director Mel Gibson expressed confidence that the film would begin shooting in the early months of 2023, and will most likely see a release date the same year.

Lethal Weapon 4 was the PERFECT ending. And it's just completely unnecessary now that Donner is gone. Let the franchise be remembered as it is. The best and most consistent action franchise of all time. All 4 are fantastic.

I always thought a good storyline would've been... if one of the bad guys from one of the previous films just got out of prison after serving around 25-30 yrs and went on a revenge rampage against Riggs and Murtaugh, forcing them out of retirement.

Donner, on his deathbed, gave Mel the script and asked that Mel direct it. Mel said the story is very dark. Mel is one of the few Hollywood persons to unabashedly pull off an 1980’s-type storyline if the script requires it.

I love Lethal Weapon. The first two are the best films to come out of the 80s. However, they need to leave it alone.

If Riggs was 19 years old when he "did a guy in Laos from 1000 yards out" and it was the end of the Vietnam War in 1973, Riggs would be 70 years old in this movie.
