Anyone looking for the answer: A Manhattan has Vermouth.

I too prefer hand carved sugar, the nut from the bartenders morning stroke really brings out the flavor

Just an FYI this isn't a normal old fashioned or "fancy". They should definitely not be using soda or a rye, definitely done with regular bourban. And for those still wondering, the difference between and old-fashioned and5a, Manhattan is that a, Manhattan is rye whiskey with sweet Vermouth and bitters and an old fashioned is bourban with a sugar, bitters, a dash of water, and a Maraschino garnish.

I like how they act as if the "hand carved" ice tastes any different.

For people who’ve never made either. You don’t have to smoke the glass. That’s just preference that most bars don’t have.

For anyone wondering, this isnt an old fashioned or a Manhattan, both are stirred drinks, this is built. rye, sugar, bitters but no vermouth. Closer to a Manhattan but missing crucial structure and ingredients

I feel betrayed that there was no Korbel in this "Old Fashioned".

I don't know how to feel.

“What’s the difference between a Manhattan and an old fashioned?”

Dad: “let’s make an old fashioned”

This recipe for an old fashioned looks solid. I would replace the soda with a bit less of water, just to resolve the sugar. And add a maraschino cherry at the and but that's the way to go.

For a classic Manhatten I always keep 1 2 3 in mind:
1 part vermouth
2 parts whiskey
3 dashes of angostura bitters
Stir over ice and serve, not on the rocks.

Difference should be clear now.

If someone is gonna try to charge me extra for some "hand carved" ice, I'm gonna just bring my own tray of cubes lol.

Please make video on diff brands/types of bitters and what your dad prefers for his old fashioned’s. Example, Peychauds, Reagans, etc

Just cause something is “hand carved”, doesn’t make it better in any way. :) especially if we’re talking about ice. Lol!
