to be honest I think they've been hinted during the first Season. if you watch the episode, Guts, when Rick drives the Car that sets the alarm off it zooms in on the only walker behind the car and it's face looked extremely fake like if it was a mask and s1 TWD did have good makeup to create the Walkers so it may have hinted to future enemies.
