Lyrics:

I should move
Cause New York is getting muddy out
There’s LA
But it’s always kinda sunny out
And I don’t wanna hurt no more
So I set my bar real low

I’m A-okay
I’m A-okay
You say it but you just don’t mean it
You’re so insane
You’re so insane
Shut up and just enjoy this feeling

Don’t you love it
Don’t you love it
No I ain’t happy yet
But I’m way less sad
Don’t you love it
Don’t you love it
No I ain’t happy yet
But I’m way less sad

I wake up
And I’m not so mad at twitter now
Living sucks
But it’s sucking just a little now
And I don’t wanna cry no more
So I set my bar real low
I’m A-okay
I’m A-okay
You say it but you just don’t mean it
You’re so insane
You’re so insane
Shut up and just enjoy this feeling
Don’t you love it
Don’t you love it
No I ain’t happy yet
But I’m way less sad
Don’t you love it
Don’t you love it
No I ain’t happy yet
But I’m way less sad
I may be wrong
I may be wrong
It’s stupid but it’s all I have
Don’t you love it
Don’t you love it
No I ain’t happy yet
But I’m way less sad

Well I can’t fall asleep
And I’m losing my mind
Cause it’s half past three
And my brain’s on fire
I been counting sheep
But the sheep all died
And I’m trying too hard
But I can’t not try

Well I can’t fall asleep
And I’m losing my mind
Yeah it’s half past three
And my brain’s on fire
I been counting sheep
But the sheep all died
And I’m not dead yet
So I guess I’ll be alright

Don’t you love it
Don’t you love it
No I ain’t happy yet
But I’m way less sad
Don’t you love it
Don’t you love it
No I ain’t happy yet
But I’m way less sad
I may be wrong
I may be wrong
It’s stupid but it’s all I have
Don’t you love it
Don’t you love it
No I ain’t happy yet
But I’m way less sad

I love how I can encapsulate all of AJR’s music into the theme of “life sucks, everything sucks, but I’m making the best of it.” Truly inspirational music, nice job guys!

The meaning of half of AJR’s songs are basically “I’m depressed but not that much”

This song resonates deep in the bones of anyone who's been through depression.

This is the first song that I’ve heard that acknowledges that you don’t go from depression to good in a day.

This song means so much to me, I was depressed for a couple of years back and only now I'm starting to feel finally "ok", not happy yet, but I'm not that sad anymore. Not only that, but my dad used to ask me why I wasn't happy with life and I tried to explain so many time that I wasn't unhappy, but I wasn't happy either, I was just "ok", so one day I sent him this song, and I think he understood, because he has never asked me that again.

I love the line "so I set my bar real low."
It illustrates the picture that you need to start small when getting over things like depression. Eventually, things that seemed monumental in effort seems like "real low."
Hang in there!

"Living sucks, but it's sucking just a little now" is the best line I've ever heard in a song. I can't get it out of my head

This song is a double wammy for me. First, its the song that was on the radio while my mom drove me to my high school graduation. Second, I play it after my therapy sessions to help me feel proud of myself. I love you AJR. Thank you so much for writing this.

I love this song because instead of focusing on “I’m not happy yet”, the upbeat beat makes it sound more like a celebration of the fact that “I’m way less sad” and since as the song suggests, you don’t go from depressed to happy at the flick of a switch it teaches people to celebrate their little victories and the small things they can do to improve their state.

I think this song is a way healthier than the songs we typically get about depression. Depression is often portrayed as happening to most people because of something bad that happened in their life, and then they get help once and it is like the mental illness is gone! Maybe that happens for some, but for a lot of people, depression doesn’t go away completely. Very, very rarely, it may never actually go away at all. That is terrifying! Many people seem confused by the concept someone can do everything right and still be depressed. They go to therapy constantly, take their meds on time, actively use appropriate coping skills, and always follow the advice of their doctor and yet it doesn’t help. So, what do we do when that happens? What happens when we have tried countless medications, therapies, and treatments and it still doesn’t get any better? Is that the beginning of the journey, or is that the end? This song validates the experiences of those kinds of people. In my opinion, not being happier but being way less sad is a fantastic achievement!

man, im 62 years old and have never cared to be a groupy and although hearing great songs over the years, nothing really struck me as this is great, refreshing and enjoyable, you are a real dork man and thank you for sharing yourself with the world. I hope your music stays working for you and not working you. yeah the hat is cozy and comfy, id wear mine all the time but it would always get tilted and kicked to a 45 still comfy. good luck in recognizing and achieving your dreams

Listening to this after Bummerland makes it feel like a story of someone who's hit rock bottom and is slowly working their way back to happiness. Very nice.

My daughter is 6 and has autism. She loves this song and is currently listening to it on repeat. 4 times in a row now with her angelic voice singing the lyrics.
She told me she wants to play music like that. Thank you for inspiring her!
Much love.

I'm convinced that if this song was sung by any other band it would be the saddest song on the iternet

The beat drop makes you feel happy and hides us from the lyrics that we're truly feeling
