I've been in a psych ward too and it was awful for a while but after a couple months it got better, I'm still in contact with some of the other patients and we talk often, I made a lot of great friends there

Im kinda tired of people making them seem really scary. They aren't that bad, you can roam around and do other things. "Panic room" is not anything i would use to describe them.
