Second DK Coin, it’s at 0:44
At 2:54, there’s another DK Coin, but I’m not counting it, it isn’t hidden

I consider the treasure of this game is its over the top soundtrack by David Wise... specially for me: Bayou Boogie, Hot-Head Bop, In a Snow-Bound Land and the superlative "Stickerbush Symphony".

I'm surprised Klubba, the gatekeeper to the Lost World, wasn't mentioned. He seems to be the only Kremling in this game that befriends the kongs (once after you pay him). And we learn a little about him as well that he detests K. Rool cause he mistreats his people. Makes you wonder if any other kremling feels the same way.

The instruments is easy. The pals and the instruments use the same color pallet designation. If the buddy isnt despawned the pallet doesn't switch and you end up with colored instruments.

3:07 Link rendered here looks like the early Zelda 64 promo footage that was in development at the time. I never made that connection before.

5:17.... they were all in direct competition in the 90s, thats why jim with the dk head has an arrow thru it. jims gun and sonics shoes are next to the trash can because they are the no hopes of the consel wars

I’ve always loved all the references in cranky’s museum. Although that headless Krusha is definitely dark.

There’s so many mysteries around the DKC games, it’s insane.

Great video as always, my dude. 👍🏻

I remember getting this game for Christmas and being truly surprised and excited for this beautiful game. To this day, it's still one of my favorite games ever. Thanks for covering this!

IMO DKC2 is the gold standard for 2D platformers, as great as super mario world is, i think the DKC games are better. Ive beat dkc2 probably 10 times in my life. Its also one of the first games i ever played as a kid, its so nostalgic for me.

For the first point, I always thought that the map was implied to be what you find in the ship during the first level (where it outlines the basic story) and the circles are simply the path from DK Island to Crocodile Isle, since it a traditional treasure map (that presumably belonged to the Kremlings).

I may have a pretty decent answer as to why you can summon golden instruments in the one level.

In the DKC games, palettes are updated depending on what sprites are loaded in. If you've seen a couple ROM Hacks of DKC, you might see enemies be discoloured because another enemy exists and both enemies share the same palette space. So that could be Squitter overwriting the palette for the guitar and boombox.

check this out:

In Donkey Kong (original), Donkey Kong is mad at Mario because they are using the Kongs as labor for construction. Mario is helping build something on DK Island

There is only one steel constructed building on DK Island: Krem Co.

therefore, Mario helped build Krem Co

I noticed something about the Game Over screen, and it's something another YouTuber pointed out as well. After moving down to a picture of Diddy and Dixie captured in a prison, the screen turns deep red to make the player really feel the impact of their failure. However, I think the fade to red, might indicate that the two monkeys' prison, is actually an oven. Hugh.

And, this may be because Clapper happens to be my favorite animal buddy, but -- I think it's really cool how you gave him that bit of special attention where you pointed out what he actually is about, and theorizing about there being multiple Clappers. The last part I find hard to believe, but the part about his icy cold breath I think is actually awesome. The only function he has is basically a liquid-altering button, yet Rareware put that extra effort into him to make him believable, friendly, and a great world-building tool all in one adorable package!

Great video, Jiggy! I still love this game! A true SNES classic! As a kid, I always liked to think that video game characters lived in different dimensions, but could still travel to other characters' worlds.

Also, I always wondered what happened to Swanky as he just kind of disappeared after DKC 3. As a kid, I assumed Swanky Kong was the voice announcing the Bonus Barrel games in Donkey Kong 64! 😅

Thank you for that Kremkoin trick! That is pretty amazing! Maybe it was some leftover debug thing or even like a data overflow glitch? I guess we'll never know.

2:10 I did not know that trick. Cool beans!
8:23 Swanky Kong could be a love child of Cranky.

Uhm ackshually, Uncle Kong isn’t actually a member of the Kong family, the end of the strategy guide reveals he’s actually just a banana salesman from Osaka.
