I have S3 audi. And I remember the system engaging once i started to slip in the road. Got me back on track and saved my life.

Losing the 3rd diff to me feels like cheapening the whole system.
The reason why Quattro is so good is because of the permanent AWD. This means all wheels are connected all the time, and can't be disconnected unless you actually break one of the shafts.
There is a clear advantage of a permanent system that is predictable car dynamics regardless of surface condition. You can slam on the throttle and the car will NOT spin out or understeer uncontrollably even on snow. Any other car... well good luck.

No more Torsen. No more classic Quattro. And If that was not enough, Audi puts it as an "innovative", an upgradde system.

Is it possible to manually turn permanent quattro mode with button or something, or computer controls it all the time and it is only reactive?

quattro for me is a Permanent AWD system with a torque split going to all 4 wheels...all the time. No BS with computers taking out traction wheels & splitting power without at least some power going to each wheel. This ISN'T quattro.

This is walking backwards just to satisfy a small bump in fuel efficiency.

That's it. They've done it.
They have ruined Quattro. In all my years of driving, I've only had Audi Quattro's. Nothing else. I've had an Audi S6, Audi 100, Audi S4, Audi A6 2.7 Biturbo just to mention a few. Quattro's principle is PERMANENT four wheel drive. This isn't Quattro, and how dare they say it is. This "new" generation of Quattro will be heavily front wheel drive biased cars, which will ruin any form of driving joy. I can't describe how upset I am about this. .. :(

It is sad that permanent AWD with crown gear differential is now replaced with Ultra-Quattro system that is essentially front-wheel drive until computer decides. No matter how you look at it – it is a reactive system, very similar to cheap systems used on RAV4, CRV, and many other predominantly front wheel drive cars. This system will have more under-steer, will be more unpredictable in the corners, and it is unclear can in ever send more torque to the rear wheels that to the front wheels? Crown gear differential could send up to 85% of the torque to the rear wheels, making cars feel sporty, handle well in the corners and fun to drive. Even though the design of this model is beautiful, I guess my current Audi is the last one that I will own.

new b9 a4 allroad is great looking car but this BS ultra(US 2.0 tfsi) is the reason why i don't buy this car, quattro R.I.P:(

This is sad. Saving 3 cents by ditching decades of history? The whole selling point of Audi is quattro and this is NOT quattro.
The only way i could forgive Audi is if they made it rwd based awd system. A fwd car can not be a luxury car and thats it.

Well this sucks. FWD is for sissies. Audi is supposed to make awesome AWD cars. Not cheesy wrong-wheel-drive junk with rear wheels that kick in eventually. I'm very very disappointed.

this is ATTESSA but ass-backwards. Contrary to all the boomers underneath me, this is a good design MINUS using brakes. what a way to cause uneven wear.. I can't stand by that. I'd rather it didn't fuck with my pads and used real torsen in the rear and instead sent power to the front like ATTESSA. Nissan has it correct, i just wish it had the refinement of audi but now it seems even audi is cheap..
