Mathematician Gareth Jones on abelian and non-abelian groups, the symmetry of geometric objects and what are the principles a group must satisfy.

'There are the rules which characterize a group: you have a set, you have a way of combining two elements in the set to produce a third, you have an identity element which does nothing when you combine it with something else, and every element has an inverse which cancels it out.'

Gareth Jones, Emeritus Professor of Mathematics, University of Southampton

His hair style is symmetric, really beautiful.

"There's a rotation which does nothing, there I did it again." haha
I like also he says, "Shoes and socks are a non abelian group." Will probably never forget that example since I've only just learned about group theory.

Groups are a remarkable mathematical concept. Most of the problems which I like related with groups such as finding propagation amplitude with Lie Algebras of operators, external symmetry of quantum Kepler problem, Noether's theorem
