This is the best gaming laptop you can get with an INCREDIBLE water cooling system.

Never knew Dave had a guy around until now, this is just like the leg reveal!

Aside from the performance bump, lower temps should mean better longevity (even though the pump will probably break before the laptop). Either way, very cool concept

Using distilled water truly is smarter than 'real' coolant, since you'll be opening and closing the loop so frequently.
You'll be putting in fresh water often enough to not have to worry about the loop gunking up.

nice to see this as in LTT they got the broken one.

and apparently there's a camera guy (thought he's alone this whole time)

Linus got unlucky with his unit and gave it a fairly okay rating. Dave gets a working unit and gave it a good rating. I hope the production quality consistency is there. Or have XMG make available the controller and power pass-through so that people can use their own rad/fan/pump.

I would not have guessed a 10% performance bump along with 20c reduction in temperatures and reduced fan noise (a big deal due to logarithms) with a single water cooled heatpipe. This is well beyond expectations.

Instead of draining the fluid they can just do a sealed quick connect on the laptop too. Would be a lot less complex to implement and it's something that already exists in many industries. I mean this ancient alphacool desktop watercooling kit from 2008 I have has 2 sided anti leak quickconnects. You get the typical drop or 2 from time to time if you do it but thats it.

"fluids dripping out of your laptop" 😏 count me sold

mmm.

When considering distilled water, I would look up first if the radiator is out of aluminum. Because alu and copper don’t mix well in a loop without additives.

try using g-fuel for the cooling liquid

"in a environment where u just cant have fluids dripping out of ur laptop - that sounds so perverted" LOL best line

It's only a matter of time until we completely bring out the super sweaty nerd Dave in you and you'll have no choice but to use one of our systems as your daily driver! It is my mission;)

'Super sweaty nerd Dave'. I like that. What self-awareness! I like this idea too. Perhaps still a bit too proto-type in it's implementation, but the idea and initial execution is great!

Well… this is a step up from cooling pads

I think what they need change for the next gen is that before you disconnect, it should have a button that you can press, which will suck all the water out of the laptop loop, so no mess could be make. Maybe even pressure lock the loop to make sure no accidental unlatches. Other than that, it is a neat solution to the niche market as of now.

Intel 12th and 13th gen CPUs are essentially a desktop CPU in a laptop. They require a lot of cooling, the best way is to get a cooling pad, and set the AC in your room to 18 degrees.

I find it quite interesting that even with that short loop of the water pipe under the regular heat pipes, it makes such a massive difference. It looks as if they just took their previous air cooled only model and at their first atempt they just put the water pipe like that to keep it simple and seeing that the improvement was already so good they just decided to keep it like that.

Anyway, keeping it simple is a big plus, and probably most of the developement time went into the quick release system.

6:25 “if you’re moving around a couple times a week” is the key phrase.

If you’re generally stationary for a month or two, I’d definitely fill that up with coolant, not distilled water. The biocide isn’t hazardous to humans, so long as you don’t drink it lol.

You will get stuff growing in there.

Not saying that’s what Dave said, but it almost sounded like he did. Just hoping anyone who has this system and leaves it unchanged for over a month is using coolant. Would suck to have to try to clean out those pipes.

I really wouldn’t mind draining it at all. Just keep a nice cloth near your desk. It takes like 10 seconds for way way better temps and better performance. 100% worth it. I hope more laptops do this. Being able to costuming your own water loop would be really cool and fun too. Maybe they can sell the adapter that connects to it and the chip and let people get a bigger radiator and the fans they like and different cases.

This truly would be the best of both worlds. Portable power but a great desktop experience.

I love this idea.

Imagine a version with a beefier water cooler in a slimmer laptop: you would have a portable machine that becomes a gaming station at home. It's kinda like the eGPU idea but we've seen where that went.
