Before having considered uninstalling Arch Linux……… did you try turning your PC off and on again?!

I stopped using Arch as well. I had fun and enjoyed it, but I just don't have the time or energy for it anymore.

Nvidia driver problems are why I always buy computers with Intel or AMD graphics. That way most distros work out of the box and i can use the left over free time to do something more productive.

I got into arch only because of the "I use arch btw fomo". Just within a month I realised rolling release, spending soo much time building broken things and configuring from scratch isn't for me. Sometimes you want something that just works.

I've left Arch Linux many times, but I've kept coming back 😅

Nothing wrong with having a stable system! I don't have the time or the inclination to baby sit rolling release distros.

Endeavor was my first distro I ever used, despite people telling me that I should not use arch distro as a beginner. To me, while it was definitely complicated at first, I enjoyed it because I felt like a learning experiencing entirely. It felt satisfying to see things work. But yea, if you aren't really for learning linux at its highest abstraction wise, and want to use a OS that is just convenient and customization to use, I guess arch wouldnt be the best choice.

Today, the trick is to stay on vanilla Ubuntu and not update packages ever until another LTS release comes out.

Surprise ending; I thought you would end up with Ubuntu, back where you started. I had Arch installed as a secondary distro for about a year. I never had any trouble with it, but the updates were voluminous, and I don't want to depend on a rolling release distro. I removed it, and now have Manjaro installed as a secondary distro to Ubuntu. I use it occasionally and it has worked well without a hitch for the 4 months I've had it.

I'm using Ubuntu as a secondary system right now and works flawlessly on a 10-year-old laptop. Only been a week now but i'm loving it.

I'm using ArcoLinux as well at the moment. So far so good on my end. I have an AMD CPU, an nVidia GPU and I'm using Xorg on a 3-monitors setup. I guess they fixed the problem you were having.

You will probably enjoy doing a Gentoo install. Recently I have been feeling tempted to dive into nixos just because it's a different way to do Linux.

I cannot recommend using debian for desktop.
You end up with outdated packages, you still need to compile a lot, the chance of you screwing up things gets higher.
My laptop wasn't even possible to use without "Testing" repositories, and guess what, it's not "Stable" ...

The reason that I use macOS is because it gives me a consistent user experience and everything that I need. If I were to move away from macOS, I would choose FreeBSD. It is very much like Arch in the sense that you have to build the OS from scratch to what you want it to be, but the upside is that it is hugely stable and has huge support for Nvidia drivers.

I love dnf and cant understand why everyone is using arch. It is rolling to every update can break something. Currently I am still on windows but am using a headless centos 7 vm for a year and plan on using rocky linux 8 if i switch to linux. It is just nice and stable and i really like rpms

I now use Mint Linux reason. It is Ubuntu based but doesn't have the snaps problem. I hate installing snap packages since they are so huge in size and come with redundant packages

Average Linux user I was also a Arch user but I use Debian version distro more specific Deepin OS

fedora gnome workstation works effortlessly with nvidia drivers.

Setting up Nvidia with Xorg is a huge pain in the ass indeed, specially with laptops. I've managed to do so by installing xorg, nvidia-lts (cause I'm using linux-lts, if you use linux then install nvidia), nvidia-utils and following the wiki on Nvidia Optimus. I configured it to use Nvidia Drivers only, which is a little bit more battery consuming, but I generally use my laptop plugged, so that's not a big issue, I guess. It took me many hours to finally setup it properly, but it now works. I just have to make some adjustments for automatically changing the resolution when unplugging a monitor. If I manage to do so, I'll provide a repository with my dotfiles and some instructions for anyone attempting to do this on a laptop with Nvidia

you can install base arch and use the archinstall command to install x with the correct nvidia drivers for you automatically now.
