“The rule” is delaying a restart… the injured player is still on the floor when the ball is kicked … what restart is being delayed?

Tom I agree with you about Trossard sending off is 'technically' correct as how the rules are written with strict interpretation. What infuriates us Arsenal fans is that we have seen multiple incidents with players from other teams kicking the ball away, some already on a booking and facing no punishment from the ref. The *same* referee did not send Szoboslai off for the exact same thing just the other week. How is that Arsenal are the only team to have a player sent off (TWICE) for this rule and no one else? That just shows you with clarity that we are refereed differently compared to the other teams, there is no other way to look at it.

I don't want to see action against Haaland or Pep. BUT the one thing that annoys me is knowing if an Arsenal player or Arteta did what they did we'd never hear the end of it. Media, Youtubers would go on for days about how disgraceful we are etc.

Congratulations on the move!!

I think the phrase could/should be “goonerfy” the space. 😊🎉

The problem with Oliver and the rest they throw the book at us all the time since he's been officiating us in games he's given us 94 yellows and 7 red the most of any official, Everton second with 89 yellows and 5 red, i don't believe there is a conspiracy but I do think he has a bias against us and certain teams, Liverpool and United included

I was at the Emirates on Sunday good crowd in despite the Men's game on in the afternoon. when Arsenal moved the ball they looked dangerous. But the seems fragile at the back with no Leah Williamson playing

Congrats on the move and best of luck to the two of you in the new place, Tom!! 😁

With all due respect, I have a major disagreement. 😅

I genuinely do not understand how you don't have any issue with Michael Oliver, and instead blame the rule, when the main problem with the entire situation is that Oliver willingly chose to book Trossard while not booking Doku for the same offense. If both players received yellow cards, I would totally understand you taking the stance you've taken -- that the ref had no choice, that it's just because of a bad rule, etc. However, it's the difference in Oliver's decision-making when it came to Doku versus Trossard (and apparently Szoboszlai last week in an identical situation, although I didn't watch) means the blame absolutely falls on him.

Also, I think it's really unfair of you to call Trossard an idiot for not having a reaction time faster than 0.89 second. Especially considering he was already in motion preparing to hit a long pass over to Martinelli for an attempted counter attack. Again, maybe if both he and Doku rightfully received yellow cards, I would understand more blame being placed on Trossard instead of Oliver. However, even in that hypothetical situation, I personally would still consider 0.89 second to be an absurdly short amount of time to expect a player to be able to stop mid-motion after hearing a whistle.

Cheers mate ✌

Aww no Rodri is injured what a shame. I hope he returns soon and in time for next season .

One doesn't want to see these things, but we do. We are seeing players red carded for kicking a ball away (not directly, necessarily), but throwing a ball into a players head is ok. Guaranteed that if a player turns around and pushes Haaland to the ground he's going to get a red card and probably suspended for 3 games. Just a difference of opinion.

Think about how this match against City gives other teams confidence that they can go at City like we did, how their management teams can analyse how Arteta got 2-1 up at City and what tactics they can take from our game and use themselves against City.

19:00 whether Trossard was sending the ball to Martinelli or just kicking it away. It doesn’t change the fact that his decision and motion starts before the whistle and it’s literally impossible to stop immediately. He’s not a robot. Any one that plays football regularly knows that it doesn’t work like that. So don’t blame him one bit.

I agree with you that Haaland's petulant ball-throwing and Pep's chair-kicking should not result in an expulsion, but when people are being sent off for the bizarre reasons that Rice and Trossard were, the fact that others engage in equally (or more) egregious conduct and get no sanction and suffer no cost is enfuriating. BTW, Oliver's quick yellow to Trossard is reminiscent of his double-yellow to Martinelli, but it is the opposite of his decision not to send Kovacic off last campaign because he "did not want to ruin the match." Again, it's the inconsistency that seems to almost always go against Arsenal makes me scratch my head.

I do disagree, I think in that moment Teossard should have been given the benefit of the dought, the whistle being blow and him kicking the ball was far to quick. The ref clearly wanted to send him of, IMO.

Don’t let the fact that Michael Oliver was part of a selection of EPL officials who were flown to officiate games taken place in Saudi Arabia pro league which one of the directors is the owner of citeh. Conflict of interest and paid 20, 000 to officiate 🤔

Remember M. Owen scoring 95 min goal vs. Mcfc. These same people complained extra extra time, 16yrs ago. #11.5 min

If it’s the rules that are the problem then why are the referees still not applying them fairly, consistently and evenly? Sobozlai did exactly what Trossard did and there was more time between the whistle and the kick than there was for Trossard. Same referee, similar situation, more time and yet completely different outcome.

Respectfully Tom, I think you’re not quite on the money here.

Sure, the rules can be poorly written but the enforcement has been (in the long term) and continues to be extremely inconsistent. To the point now where the professional integrity of match officials could reasonably be put into question. This is not the first time dubious calls have been made in City’s favor in high profile games since Mr. Oliver’s “freelance officiating gig” in Dubai at the expense of City’s ownership.

Surely you must agree that if it is purely a coincidence, it’s bizarre that the coincidences consistently favor City? I get if you can’t question them openly as being part of the media apparatus, but many of us look at it like this: it walks like corruption, talks like corruption, sounds like corruption, it probably is corruption.

We’re running out of other reasonable explanations for the resulting outcomes, imo.

Great show Tom and I thank you for it. Please just take this as a difference of opinion and not criticism or a twitter argument 😅

But I just can’t get on board with the protecting of referees by saying our players give them no choice.

Rice didn’t give Kavanagh a choice, yet Joao Pedro did? Trossard didn’t give Oliver a choice, yet Bernardo, Doku and Szobozlai did?

We can’t expect our player to understand when the refs will apply the rules and when they won’t.

We could say, well our players should know they are refereed differently. That would be like saying suit yourself for carrying your wallet around, instead of blaming the robber.

The fault lies with the refs. Not with our players.

Tom, whatever the rules, should be applied to all. Doku!

IMO the reason behind Trossard's 2nd yellow for "delaying/wasting time" doesn't make sense. At that time Bernardo was down on the ground n needed treatment so it would take some time to restart anyway. It's absolute BS!!!
