Revealing My Top 6 EDC Knife Steels-Which Will Be the BEST?! I test a lot of knives on the channel and I get to see what I like and don't like. With the blade steels keep getting better and better this list is constantly changing however there are a few that have been on this list for a long time. What are your top 3 favorite knife steels to use? Of course these aren't the only steels I like but for now these are my favorites.

3 favorites: K390, 14C28N, Magnacut
K390 is the best balanced high-alloy tool steel, and the only one which can be had for "working knife" prices in the Seki knives.
14C28N among the very toughest steels, only slightly beat (at each given hardness) by 3V and AEB-L. And can be had in $50 knives.
MagnaCut is in line with high alloy tool steels (falling between M4 and Cru-Wear), but highly corrosion resistant.

I will say, I've fallen out of love with most of the high edge retention, low toughness steels. Maxamet, 15V, ZDP-189, S90V, M390, 20CV. I'd rather strop daily, than reprofile an edge chip ever again.

I'm not a steel junky I just like knives so 14C28N and 154CM are my favorite because they are affordable and stainless. I got 20Cv, M390, M398, and S90V knives but I dont really see the extra value. When you got hundreds of knives your never going to need a super steel because you carry a different knife everyday.

Current favorite knife: BM Mini Freek Carbon Fiber in S90V. Longest carried steel: 154CM on a BM Mini Grip and full size Griptilian ~15 years. Favorite steels: Magnacut, S30V, S90V, and good ole reliable 1095.

1. K390 2. 15v 3. Spy27 4. LC200N 5. Magnacut The order of the rankings is a little bet tilted to "Time" in pocket.
SPY27 surprised me, I love the ease of stropping right back to shaving sharp. Runners up M4, Maxamet, ZDP189 and 154CM.
20CV is good and they get the heat treatment spot on more often then M390. Great Video!

If I could only choose one steel, it would probably be S35VN, because it’s so well balanced. It’s tougher than M390, has good edge retention and it’s not too bad to sharpen. I haven’t tried any Magnacut yet tho.

I love cruwear. More than enough edge retention, easy to resharpen, and even though it isn't stainless, it resists corrosion a good deal better than stuff like M4 or Rex 45. I have cruwear on a Boker Mono I carry.

Some of my favorites are Rex 45 and M398, not talked about as often but they’re both excellent knife steels and are worth every penny

I’m pretty in line with your choices. I’d probably go K390 just for pure performance, Cruwear for pretty care free use due to its toughness and pretty decent corrosion resistance, and my 3rd would be M4 which k390 knocked down quite a few notches. That said, in time Magnacut might replace cruwear since it has the properties of a tool steel but is pretty much carefree in use which a little less toughness. Also having used the 15v manix for a couple months now, k390 might have a challenger. I picked up a 15v PM2 a couple weeks ago and I’m with you in that it’s the current best available platform for the steel, so that will be the real test against k390. Tool steels are just exceptional when it comes to performance and sharpening, plus I love the look of a well used blade with a heavy patina.

Was very blessed to acquire a late drop of a 15V Shaman here in Germany -- most excellent knife, love it to no end! ♥

I really like cpm3v, m390, cpm154, and 440c. First 3 steels for toughness /edge retention and corrosion resistance, the 440c I love because it sharpens up so easily and gets good and sharp.

Love trying new blade steels. Wasn't able to get the Manix 2 in 15V, really wanted it.

Nice video. I'm new to knife collecting so definitely learned a lot here.

The Lc200n that spyderco does, seems to hold a nice long edge. I like their cruwear as well.

İf you like Vanax which is more corrosion resistant resistant than LC200 but with the right heat treat will retain sharpness better than M390 have a look at the Pulsar S Tao. This is currently available for pre-order at $239 which for 3.5" sheepsfoot blade with Titanium handle is a steal.

I think my all time favorites are my purple cru wear PM2 from DLT with a satin blade, my para 3 in Rex 45 orange and blue g10 and M4 on my shaman and actually XHP I feel it's under appreciated.

I think I'm also looking forward to seeing more Magnacut out there because of the excellent balance of toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. My Benchmade mini-Adamas in CruWear has really impressed me too. I love the edge CruWear takes and at that high RC it stays sharp for a long time. I could definitely see 15V being my go to if I was cutting copious amounts of abrasive stuff and didn't want to touch up very often. I also really think CPM 3V is the best go to for a fixed blade, that toughness is great. I have a White River Ursus 45 in 3V and black burlap micarta that I just love to use.

Maxamet is my favorite. I've only had to really sharpen it once in 4 years(I do strop it occasionally with Gunny Juice). K390 is my 2nd fave. I like the S30V family, including S35 and 45 for all-around steel. 14C28N is my favorite budget steel. I have a Rex 45 Spyderco arriving tomorrow. I can't wait to use it and see how it performs.

Very informative information as always. I only have a couple premium steals, and I haven’t had to sharpen them yet. I guess that’s why they are premium. 😊
