Wax has a low melting point. Meaning it doesn't need much heat to melt. I know because I've touched melted wax in candles and it didn't burn my finger. You can also tell by the fact wax starts to melt almost instantly when lit. It doesn't take as long as it takes water to boil hence the low melting point. Please don't stick a finger in a melting candle as it's not only near a flame and it's still moderately hot. If you touch it it's not cold since it's near a flame. So don't do it. I did it with a candle that I had turned off or with a candle I was recycling. As in melting an existing candle into a new one. Still don't do it. I don't want to be held liable for damages.
I checked though and paraffin wax has a melting point of 37C° (99F°) so it's not hot to the touch. But it appears warm since it's closer to our body temp.
