A short video with pro recommendations about ball heads for 150-600mm and 200-600mm lenses. Plus an excellent alternative gimbal setup for wildlife photography. Super lightweight, incredibly strong, and less expensive combination for you to consider.

The birds tweeting at the beginning scared the crap out of me.

Less expensive and light weight agreed. And when I've forgotten to bring my two Gimbals this works in a pinch. This method however is not a better alternative to the smooth panning and tilt movements of a high quality Gimbal head. Just a cheap alternative to a professional piece of equipment. But as I said in pinch this is better than nothing.

Do you still highly recommend the tripod/ball head combo that you have listed? I'm currently in the market for a setup for my 200-600mm lens. Do you notice much of a difference between the two ball heads? The prices are a little daunting for me but it seems like a worthwhile investment.

With the cost of the head and that multifunction companion you are in the midrange gimbal category. I guess if you already had that companion sure but looking for an alternative it might be better to just get a gimbal at that point.
