Following its discovery in the 70s, the Cantarell oil field enabled Mexico to become a major oil producer. Decades of lax management and complacency by Pemex, Mexico's state-owned oil company, together with the declining output of the Cantarell, has left the country with serious production problems.

I've started watching Peter to see what's NOT going to happen.

Another brilliantly expressed prediction by the guy who’s terrible at making predictions.

If Peter Zeihan says it, then i can rest assured mexico will be fine. This guy sees a burger king closing then goes "USA will colapse in 2 weeks"

"US can get a little bit bossy" is a HUGE oversight of why the energy sector in Mexico's history is what it is, not sure if dumb or manipulative.

you remind me when a patient (plumber) tried to explain to the cardiologist what he had to do, so little knowledge so much confidence

I worked at a Shell refinery in Ca for 25 years. I went to a meeting where they were talking about Mexican refineries. They said that with all the corruption and nepotism, it takes 5000 Mexicans to run the same size refinery that is run in the US with 3000 workers. The irony is that it would probably still cost less because of wages. They also mentioned that the oil from huge oil tankers have gone "missing" because of corruption.

Between "sweet" and "sour" and "Tabasco", I was getting a little hungry there.

Just a little info from Texas. I know first hand that a Mexican company bought what used to be the Shell refinery in here a couple years ago so it's possible it's been set up to use light sweet crude. As someone else pointed out the oil from Venezuela is heavy sour crude. There used to be a refinery here that was set up to use that exact crude until they got sideways with the US. There's some evidence to suggest that the oil from Canada which is coming down by rail is being refined there. This was why there was so much controversy about a pipeline, part of which did get built but the primary reason the northern section keeps getting blocked is because the owner of the railroad has political pull. Politics is all about money, who's got it and which politician/s get it.

Old news Mexico doesn’t depend on the Cantarell oil field
It has found plenty of other oil fields and is now self sufficient in energy production.
But thank you for your concern.

To think that Mexicans base their oil production in cantarel is old as it can be.

Nobody in Mexico rely in cantarel no more since more that 7 years ago
