The Mitchell 30o was the reel I wanted as a kid. I never got one back then and had to make do with a Zebco 202. I do have one now as well as a 300A. These reels were so over-engineered. I love my Mitchell tools as I was able to get the full set a few years ago. They certainly come in handy! I’ve had to replace that AR dog and spring on several of these 300s over the years. There were definitely a few different designs for those dogs. This 300 sure does operate smoothly! Great job Dennis. At last count I own 67 French Mitchells. They are very much my favorite. — Chris

I own and use modern spinning reels with ball bearings and fast retrieve ration in the 2500 -3000 size. They're good but there have been failures. A fishing trip more than a couple hours from home will always include a Mitchell 300 as a primary reel or at least as a backup. I've never had a Mitchell 300 fail in the sixty years I've used them.

I've worked with dozens of derelict Mitchell reels. They're usually just full of old solidified grease or were never properly service to begin with. Most resurrect just fine, especially once you figure out the shims. They aren't as light and slick as they stuff made today, but they are still very solid reels.
