Black Star Dragon Ball Saga:
Years after the events of the Majin Buu saga, Goku continues training Uub to become a powerful fighter at Kami's lookout. Meanwhile, Pilaf and his loyal companions, Mai and Shu—now significantly older than when we last saw them—sneak into the lookout to search for the Black Star Dragon Balls, a different version of the Dragon Balls that Kami had hidden away. Just as they are about to make a wish, Goku stumbles upon them. In a fit of frustration at seeing his old enemy, Pilaf accidentally wishes that Goku was a child again, a wish that the dragon, Ultimate Shenron, immediately grants. Goku is transformed back into a child, and the Dragon Balls scatter into space. Later, Goku learns that due to the unstable energy of the Black Star Dragon Balls, the planet where a wish is made will explode unless the balls are retrieved. To help Goku, Bulma builds a spaceship, and it is decided that he, along with Trunks and Goten (now both teenagers), will embark on the quest. However, Gohan and Videl's daughter, Pan, sneaks onto the ship and purposely launches it ahead of schedule, leaving Goten behind. With no other choice, Goku, Trunks, and Pan set off on their adventure through space to collect the Black Star Dragon Balls. Along the way, they gain a robotic ally named Giru, who absorbs their radar, and they encounter numerous misadventures on various planets.

Baby Vegeta Saga:
The Baby Vegeta Saga is the second saga in Dragon Ball GT. Baby, otherwise known as a parasite created by the "Tuffle" Race, seeks revenge on the Saiyans for the extermination of his people. Originally failing to defeat Goku, Trunks and Pan, Baby sets his sights on the Earth, beating the trio home and holding the planet hostage via his ability to take control of their minds and bodies. Among the infected are Goten, Gohan, and even Vegeta, who Baby uses as his permanent host on account of his strength. Using Vegeta's power in tandem with his own, Baby catches Goku and the others off guard, adding Trunks to his list of infected, and leaving Goku to find a way to defeat him on his own. With his options running out and strength fleeting with every battle, Goku's only chance to defeat Baby is to ascend to the ultimate Saiyan transformation: Super Saiyan 4.

Super 17 Saga:
The Super 17 Saga is the third saga in Dragon Ball GT. Dr. Myuu, who was previously killed by Baby, seeks revenge on Goku for thwarting his plans. He's met by the brilliant Dr. Gero in Hell, who also shares Myuu's goal of eliminating the Saiyan once and for all. The two decide to work together and create an "upgraded" Android 17, meant to fuse with the original 17 on Earth to unleash a power far greater than even Perfect Cell. Taking control of the original 17's mind, Hell Fighter 17 uses him to open a portal between Hell and the Earth, allowing all of Goku's past enemies to flood into the world of the living. Android 17 confronts Trunks and beats him nearly to death, instructing him to deliver a message to Goku to meet him in Hell alone to fight, otherwise, things will only get worse. Goku does as commanded only to be tricked and trapped in Hell, leaving the Earth without its strongest warrior. The two 17's fuse into Super Android 17 and overwhelm Earths defenders, but Goku still has his ace in the hole: Super Saiyan 4.

Shadow Dragon Saga:
The Shadow Dragon Saga is the fourth and final saga in Dragon Ball GT. Goku and his friends are confronted by Black Smoke Shenron, a new entity that has replaced the original Eternal Dragon. Black Smoke Shenron seizes the Dragon Balls that Goku and his friends had gathered and unleashes the "Shadow Dragons" across various parts of the planet. These Shadow Dragons are born from the accumulated negative energy caused by the overuse of the Dragon Balls over the years, as explained by Elder Kai and Kibito Kai. They warn Goku and the others that if these Shadow Dragons are not stopped immediately, the Earth—and possibly the entire galaxy—could face destruction.

I really wanted GT to do more with Goten and Trunks' relationship. We never see much of their bond past the Buu saga and it took until Heroes to get an older Gotenks form for the two.

I think the reason Gt holds up is mainly because it incapsulates the style/heart of dbz. It has heavy western and Sci fi themes and designs as well as stylized and unique animation that made Z what it is.

I consider GT to be Canon to the alternate/original DBZ movie timeline, it’s whacky to piece together but that’s how I like to imagine it
