What is a NoSQL (Not Only SQL) Database?

Показать описание

Not just data storage, but not only SQL data storage. A NoSQL database is an approach to database design, a common alternative to SQL (or Structured Query Language) databases. NoSQL isn’t one form, but rather encapsulates a variety of data formats. It’s especially useful for large sets of distributed data.

Types of NoSQL databases include document databases, graph databases, key-value databases, and wide column stores -- all used for a variety of purposes and sets of data.

Generally, NoSQL databases are preferable to traditional relational databases when the need for performance and scalability outweigh the need for immediate, rigid data consistency.
