I actually like this Akane even more then the original and honestly am excited to see where her character goes.

It's understandable that she's changed so much after Aqua manipulated her especially since that Aqua was to easily take advantage of her knowing that she would follow through with whatever Aqua told her. Do I blame her for changing, no I don't because I've been taken advantage of myself.

Tldr, I like your video, but every points you have said are wrong cuz there's more than meet the eye. Her character is often misunderstood, so I'll take my time to defend her. Prepare, this is an essay.

1. "She is selfish"
She, by her own accord, accepting the role as Aqua's girlfriend when his PTSD woke up. Despite knowing Aqua tries to use her for something, she lets him out of trust. This is proven by her words, 'I know you don't see me as woman', back at the end of love now arc. Furthermore, if Akane is selfish, she wouldn't ask to break up for Aqua's sake cuz she thinks her being by his side adds more to his burden. If she is selfish, she wouldn't advise Aqua about Kana.

2. "She becomes obsessive"
Then she wouldn't accept Aqua's request to break up. Heck, it's Aqua the one wanting her to say when Akane tries her best to let him go despite failed and crying.

3. "She's been completely manipulated"
Like I said, Akane knows Aqua used her, but she lets him. Unlike any other characters, Akane can see beyond Aqua's lies. As proven in ch 87, "Aqua, a liar, tries his best to be honest with me." is in contrast with Kana who tought Aqua as honest and caring. Aqua and Akane relationship are based on choice, which is why Akane is shocked when he puts that tracker. Not because she didn't believe he do that, but why he doesn't tell her that. She will let him if that's what he wants.

4. "She has gone so far down in Aqua plan"
Aqua never wants Akane to join him in hell, as he said in ch 97. Akane, by her own doing, becomes the perfect tool for Aqua's plan, yet what did he do once she tries to kill Kamiki for him? He stops her. He made her stay away. Aqua is too kind to do actual revenge. And you know what's better? Aqua's eyes only turn black both only after he broke up with Akane. That's how much Akane matters to him.

5. "Akane's new personality"
She never changes. It's that she has someone she wants to save now, and it's Aqua. She would've helped Aqua's revenge, but now, knowing the revenge will only destroy him, she wants to stop him.

If one person perseption of Akane can change because of what I type, I'm thankful for it. Akane has flaws, but selfish & obsessive are not it. If anything, she might have impostor syndrome with how low she thinks of herself.

Akane is this type of character who makes the plot more interesing, almost everytime she appears we learn something New. I am OK if she doesn't end up with Aqua, why People think that if the femal character they like ends up with the MC she's some kind of a Winner ? As much as i try to think about it, Kana didn't do much to contribute to the plot, everything is about her when she's on screen, i get it she's a complex character, but i feel like her developpement is independant from the main plot while is not the case for Aqua and Akane i guess that's why she's so likable to you ( and also bc she's with Memcho some of the characters that the author spared from the dark plot going on) the fact that Akane was ready to kill someone with Aqua but then matured enough to understand that this is not the solution and wants to save him is already great so i do not see any downfall.

I just wanna say thank you, when your video came out, i discovered oshi no ko. And since then, its my favourite manga of all time with tokyo ghoul. Im obsessed with this manga ever since i saw your video and i really love the anime, i spent a lot of nights just playing game and when finished, i read the chapters of the manga, so thank you

Its funny how she's still probably the most logical and easy to understand character despite. Well, easy for me. I dont know about anyone else, but I feel like what she tried doing was pretty straightforward.

Nah, if anything she became even more interesting rather just just fading into the background being silent like what usually happens to this archetype.
Instead they gave her a chance to show even more of her analytical side and her kindness towards Aqua. Somehow she seems to evoke more emotional responses from Aqua and make do things we wouldn't expect him to. It's dynamic and refreshing.
I hope she keeps to her word and does something in the end to reach out to Aqua.

Akane is the true defination of Ai. In manga, Ai change herself because love. So Akane walk same same route also possible hinted that she imitate Ai to much and become a carbon copy. She basically change because of love.

She is my favourite character early in the series but starting from Tokyo Blade I switching side to Kana. One of the reason is her character only revolving on Aqua and his revenge, we never get her own character arc after Lovenow. I also doesn't care who gonna end up with Aqua tbh because the romance part had to much drama.

Currently I'm just interested in Kana journey than Aqua revenge quest. Consider her character arc right now is same like Ai.
