SVB collapse 'preventable': Rep. Katie Porter calls for repeal of Trump-era bank deregulation

“This comes from a failure to appropriately regulate big banks,” says Rep. Katie Porter on the collapse of SVB and the need to repeal a 2018 banking deregulation law. “This is what happens when we have politicians cater to Wall Street instead of working families.”

When I was in college in the early 1970s and learned of the slim set-asides banks were required to keep my jaw dropped thinking of future bank failures.
Trump bragged about raising the minimum for regulating banks from those $50 billion+ to those $250 billion+ in size. This latest failed bank was around $200 billion and the failure wouldn't have happened under the old law.
