I wanted to hear how close the U-he Repro-5 could come to the DSI Prophet 08/REV2, so I made this comparison. As usual, I think the hardware synth sounds a bit better, but the gap is getting very small.

Remember that there are a differences between the Prophet 08/REV2 and the Prophet 5 Repro-5 has been modeled after. However, Repro-5 is modeled after the latest Prophet 5 revision which used Curtis chips, Prophet 08/REV2 also use Curtis chips.

VST have come a long long way. This plugin is simply amazingly cool sounding... like all the U-HE stuff :)

Fair playing field for repro. There’s a lot of things the 08/Rev2 can do that repro couldn’t duplicate because the two synths have a very different feature set. They both sound great of course.

Sounds like it is close enough that a little bit of saturation takes it that extra mile. I will take two of each. :D

Dont get me wrong... The Plugin sounds amazing. But the 08 sounds so much more spacious (i.o.w. 3D) to me. More Space in between the developing sounds too. Good video.

I used to have the Prophet '08... it can sound warm but also a bit fizzy sometimes.

Nice vid. Report-5 is an emulation of Prophet-5 though not 8. Prophet 8 has a Curtis filter, 5 has another filter design, resulting in a different sound. You should compare Prophet 5 (or 6) to Repro-5.

ist it also important what kind of soundcard youre doing all that? for example if you use a very expensive soundcard with S/N more than 115 db /normal soundcards it will sound more alive, soundcard like RME Antilope Apogee have 120 or more which means more sound, what you think? great demo! :) cheers

The Curtis-Filter is the difference. So with it the REV2 sounds better than Repro-5.

Great music... difference is negligible. Throw any vintage based plugins on the repro and you can bridge that small gap.

I bought Repro-1/5 and Diva for a fraction of the cost of this synth, and I can load multiple instances simultaneously.

you can actually tell way more of a difference in the mix.. ive heard another comparison between one of Uhe plugins and an expensive analog and with the mix you could tell immediately.. but you just hear it solo.. not so much.. i think when people say things like "you cant even tell in the mix anyway vst vs analog" i think they are often thinking in terms of like a rock band with a keyboardist in the background, in which case no, you could probably use a cheap synthedit synth and nobody would care lol.. but make a whole synth only track yea you can tell
