"The shredding of the social safety net over years has resulted in the situation we have here." Truer words have never been spoken.
We remove and downsize all the supports people need, and then we criticize them for not being able to make it. This is the direct result of the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality that has reigned since I can remember.

Thank goodness we finally have someone saying out loud that people with mental health issues should NOT have the right to remain on the street and refuse care.

So happy to see this segment on CNN. God Bless Mayor Bass. I just returned from LA and was shocked to see so many people living in filth and squalor. While I gather that residents of LA have a certain tolerance of people who are so disenfranchised I realized I live in a country that is largely indifferent to such suffering. That is very clearly one of the aspects of materialism which I hate. We can do better; much better. and we must.

Theoretically, a President that was creating jobs & lowering crime would help more than giving away everyone's property taxes.

There were between 40 and 46 thousand homeless people and just over 2 thousand got into these temporary houses. That means 95% are still out on the streets, isnt it a bit early then to start removing the tents?

the theory that "most of these people want to be out there" is the most absurd, non sense thing ever. Imagine being homeless as hell, in desperate need of any kind of help and you got people out here literally accusing you of a wanting to live on the streets... wild

... but why destroy the encampments? Why trash these people's belongings? I sense dishonesty.

What about giving them micro/tiny homes??? Several cities is doing it...

You can call any city in the US. The waiting list for housing is 3 years long. There are not enough housing available.

Politicians like to cut inauguration ribbons and get media coverage. My city spent millions of dollars on a trail with an underpass at road intersections. Those underpass have become abode for homelessness. People don't go on that trail due to fear and disgust. City workers just turn their eyes to your complaint. This mayor has done a good job.

This is the right approach. It takes time, effort and lots of money. Buts it’s the right thing to do as Americans we can and should be better.

Every city should be doing this with that federal money they keep spending elsewhere

Increasing social security income would take care of half of the homeless population....seniors don't live long enough to collect their entire claim....

I like this mayor, she has the right thinking about the homeless issue. Far better for everyone to get them off the streets and into housing, or into protective care.

Unhoused is a really polite and watered down term for schizophrenic who is self-medicating with street drugs.
