Climate change disrupting jet stream, causing extreme heat around the globe

Strong storms and flooding as well as oppressive heat move through the U.S. and abroad, during what scientists say was the hottest week in recorded history. Meteorologist & climate specialist Jeff Berardelli says this may be just the beginning. "It's astonishing to see it happening but we expected this to happen," he said. "The key here is slowing it down so we can adapt and nature...can adapt as well."

Everything is fine. BP spent billions telling us it was for decades. And not to regulate them.

Looks like greed was the great filter we couldn't pass through.

but luckily the oil companies have become incredibly rich even though they knew their products were destroying the planet's fundamental systems...they must be pretty proud of themselves 🥳🥳🥳

I like the ending portion. She asked when we would see the fruits of our labor if we were to start seriously combating climate change, and he basically said all we can do is slow down the process so we can adapt over time. We're in the realm of no going back at this point. Buckle up, folks.

Yep, we missed waaaay to many turning points to be putting this genie back in it's bottle... we can only slow it, and hope it doesn't runaway from us when the deep ocean methane releases unabated...

No, he's wrong. As former US Navy in atmospheric and oceanographic deciplines, if humans stop emitting green house contributions, the heating up Will Not Stop. In fact, if we stopped everything today, everything mind you, it will still take 200 - 250 years for the climate stabilize. Minimum. Additionally, Navy data suggest mass flooding in Miami for instance, won't begin to be a problem in 80 - 100 years. Rather, 15 - 20 years. Phoenix potentially hitting 140 degrees during the summer won't take 100 years. It's more likely in less than 10.

Th deniers need to deny reality. They aren't mentally developed enough to accept genuine disaster. Not uncommon. Around 30% of any given population does the same. But denying won't stop what's coming right around the corner

The rise of anti science fervor makes this task even more foreboding.

Climate change was first described in a presentation by John Tyndall to the Royal Academy of Science in London on 1 January 1861, based on previous research. Essentially, much of humanity, and certainly many Americans, are 2 centuries behind the science.

The damage we have done over the past 50 years will take centuries to undo IF IF IF we start doing what we should have been doing all along. Sadly, as long as our society is profit driven I don't think anything much will improve. I fear for the future of my grandson.

Even as this news cast goes out, virtually nothing has been done to change this momentum.
Welcome to the ANNIHILATION GENERATION.

Keeping people in poverty assures our doom. Desperation, hopelessness, hunger, drug addiction, low esteem, horrid educational system, no living wages will make the mind callous.

It's sad that after so many yrs, so many warning signs, so much data... That we the adults have done such a poor job of taking care of what we've borrowed from our kids. The planet.

Morons will just say "it's weather" and "it always gets hot in the summer".

We’ve reached the point where real “prepping” for food and water stores is no longer considered paranoia. There will be a cataclysmic food shortage in years. It’s terrifying to think about, and it is coming.

Even if we stop greenhouse gas emissions now global temperatures will keep rising for decades, we are currently experiencing the affects of the increase in greenhouse gas emissions from 2000, due to industrialization mainly from Asia, particularly China and India, global population growth. Greenhouse gas emissions have gone from 25 billion tons in 2000 to 62 billion tons this year.

If it's one thing that I learned during the Covid pandemic, is that we [mankind] aren't going to do anything about this issue. This has somehow become a partisan issue (espeically here in the U.S.) and no long term meaningful solutions will be implemented at all. We are all going to be forced to go through whatever the environment will do to us as a result of our actions. And unfortunately it's the future generations who are going to bear the brunt of all this.

We need mandatory shut downs like we had in Covid on a smaller scale every quarter or something. Provide gov stimulus during downtimes. Remember how clean the air was when we shut down? When we stop consuming, the world heals. Reducing consumption is more important than developing a new technology. We are too hyper-focused on growth and economics. Just an idea that’s not really possible but would be cool in an ideal world.
