#13 in #FoxBodyMinuite intake manifold series

I’m starting to think there might be a mismatch issue between the thermostat housing and the new intake manifold. I’m going to remove the thermostat and have another look in the next video. Stay tuned.

Thank you for watching!

I fought the same issue with my 351W for years. I even replaced the thermostat housing. It was seeping past the hose clamp not the housing gasket no matter how tight the clamp was, but the way it runs down it makes it look like its the gasket itself. I put some Permatex super 300 on the inside of the hose and thermostat housing barb and put a good new clamp on it, problem solved for 2 years now.

I had this issue with the K24 plastic thermostat housing. Didnt use RTV and the o ring wasn't enough. Had to take everything apart again...

I have needed to use permatex avaition form-a-gasket on thermostat housing to stop those type of leaks.

I prefer a plain paper gasket coated in permatex high tack for those t-stat housings. Lap the housing surface on a piece of glass to make it really flat.

I had same prob on mine (diff engine) and went with an old/used OEM housing

My fix was to pour out the bolt that is on the distributor side of the thermostat housing and try to shift the whole housing over just enough.

Project farm did a comparison on sealants and Toyota sealant came out on top. Don’t know if that helps

At the end of a long frustrating day of working on the car I often find myself sitting on the sofa and thinking, I had fun regardless. Car guys are weird, lol.

I had a 1969 Ford LTD stock motor I had the same problems with the thermostat housing leaking and a mechanic told me that you have to put the bonding glue only on one side of the gasket not on both sides and that solves the problem I believe I put the gasket glue on the side that goes to the other outer housing part of it not at the base if this helps you probably know about that because before when it was leaking after I changed the thermostat I had put glue on both sides of the gasket

Permatex RTV black isn't supposed to be used for contact with water / coolant if you are using it switch to ultra gray. Also the gasket you got might be for the 300 / 4.9L, they look the same but they are not.

My project car is an E46 BMW. The coolant pipes have o-ring seals, and are held in place with wire clips. If you look at them wrong, they leak. It's my least favorite part of the whole car.

The thickness of the aftermarket thermostats And a motorcrafts are substantial. Parts store are a lot thicker and will keep the gasket from sealing. The groove in the housing isn't deep enough and the aftermarket thermostats will not sit below flush.

Have you tried using fluorescent dye. Maybe the leak will then manifest under UV light.

I've been watching some of your content for 10+ years and have learned a lot. Unrelated to your issue, but video related, what are your thoughts on on worm clamps vs. spring clamps?

Could it be a small crack in the housing??

I guess I'm late to the party you rarely put out regular YouTube videos anymore I'm subscribed but I guess you must have switched over to only doing shorts because I see there's a ton of those but I never really get a notification for them 🤷‍♂️

Remove it, place a sheet of sand paper ontop of a piece of glass and sand it flat, changing direction and orientation frequently..
