1971年に登場した3代目のSL(R107)は、シャシーコンポーネンツはW114から転用され、エンジンはSクラス用のユニットを搭載している。
1986年、最後のビッグマイナーチェンジが行われ、外装はエアスポイラーがオプションで付加され、パワーアップによりブレーキローター/キャリパーが大型化されたため、アルミホイールが15インチの新デザイン（通称マンホール型）となった。
搭載されるシリーズ最強のV型8気筒SOHCエンジンは、4973ccの排気量から最高出力240hpを発揮した。

The third-generation SL (R107), which appeared in 1971, has its chassis components converted from the W114, and the engine is equipped with S-class units.
In 1986, the last big minor change was made, the exterior was added with an air spoiler as an option, and the brake rotor / caliper was enlarged by power-up, so the aluminum wheel became a new design of 15 inches (commonly called manhole type) .
The strongest V-type 8-cylinder SOHC engine installed in the series demonstrated a maximum output of 240hp from a displacement of 4973cc.
