This is why I watch Zane. He shows a much more realistic side of these places. He didn't just follow an itinerary and clip out the not so great parts of these places. It does a different but real side and can help people at expectations when visiting. ❤

Iolani means Royal or Heavenly Hawk. There was a previous wooden palace on the site, but Iolani Palace was build by King David Laʻamea Kalākaua. The King, his wife Queen Kapiʻolani lived in the palace until the Kingʻs death. His sister, Lydia Kamakaʻeha Liliʻuokalani succeeded him and was overthrown by American business men and plantation owners, on January 17th, 1893, when we lost our sovereignty as an independent nation. The palace is one of the most revered and sacred places to us Native Hawaiians.

That’s my neighborhood! I love it honestly. Salt Kakaako is a great area, lots of art and craft style places to eat and drink. Hope you had a great time! Aloha

I have been watching your travels, and all of a sudden you are in Honolulu, where I live! Neat to see things through the lens of a visitor. I bet Honolulu and Waikiki are more expensive than the places you are used to!

You went to Chinatown and ate Vietnamese food. How cute!
That vegetable you didn’t know is winter melon, often used in soups!
I didn’t expect that there are graffiti everywhere in Hawaii, and they are all so beautiful and professional!
The last part was disturbing, but I'm still glad you showed us around Hawaii, thank you very much! 👍🥰🙏

if there's ever a next time, i highly recommend a trip through the north shore country side. plenty more great foods to have and sights to see, often less expensive in the right spots, less crowded, and so much closer to nature.

Wow! First time viewer, new sub, living in Portland, OR. I LOVE your presentation of Honolulu ... never been there. The word that came to mind immediately at the beginning was "Cosmopolitan" as far as the ambience. But as you got deeper into Chinatown, there was so much more character and quaintness to the area. ALL of the area you covered reminded me of the "cleanliness" of Boise, Idaho, -- although the areas are not similar in "vibe" at all. Great video! 👍👍👍💯

I live in Kakaako and it's nice to see you do a walkthrough of my neighborhood. The girl eating the guava is done by one of my best friends, so thanks for featuring it. The "my daughter kalia" is someone writing on the piece and not the name of the piece, but I appreciated you showing the work of Tati Suarez. Thanks for this wonderful walkthrough. I can't wait to see your next adventure!

Regarding pate in banh mi, it's usually in the banh mi with cold cuts (head cheese, steamed pork, sliced ham). If the fillings have a grilled component (in your case it might've been pork belly), the pate is generally omitted. I learned about this pretty quickly, since I also love pate in banh mi. I think it might be because the pate will melt into a sauce if added with heated meat. I also had a meal at the Pig and Lady, it was nice, but very loud and noisy.

I periodically watch your videos, so crazy to see you here in Hawaii and go to places I frequent regularly.

The Palace was the last residence of Hawaiian Royalty, Queen Liliuokalani. The U.S. Government over though her Monarchy & Kingdom. She was tried & imprisoned, on house arrest up in her bedroom. You should learn the stolen history of Hawai’i. Take the tour of the Palace & learn. The Bishop Museum is a must also, to learn the True Hawaii. ✌️🤙

You passed on by Auahi Street. There’s shops and eateries as well as a 16 plex theater. Whole Foods, Merriman’s and more!
