I really wish they changed his name to Jessie Mercer or something. That would have been way better. Lore wise as well, McCree and Mercer are close enough that it seems like a pseudonym he could have come up with in trying to hide his real identity.

I wish they didn’t change the name, mccree is so iconic and Cole Cassidy really just doesn’t hit the same. I wish they’d just made a public statement or something about disassociating the character from the person and not endorsing the actions of the guy.

And yet there are still people who complain that his name was changed at all. Even though Cole Cassidy is a great name for a cowboy in a hero shooter. The alliteration makes it sound like a name that Stan Lee would have given a cowboy character.

Anyway its canon that jesse mccree is not his real name there was a dialogue about it between cole and sombra back in ow1 so changing his name actually fits with the lore

I like to imagine that his birth name in game is still Jesse Mcree, but having to go on the run after overwatch shut down, he started going by Cole Cassidy. Yet, some overwatch members who didn’t know of this change (why Ashe calls him Jesse and so did Echo) would call him Jesse before changing it to Cole once they realized he changed his name.

Genuinely wish people would just call him whatever they're used to and leave it at that. We all have different preferences. Just because you call him McCree doesn't mean you support SA. No point in arguing over a name.

I get why blizzard changed the name but come on, there are like a couple of thousand people in the world with Jessie McCree, by changing the name when they did they are pretty much saying this Jessie is the same as the real one. The damage had already been done so they shouldn't change the name. By blizzard logic, if say Michael Jackson did what he did, then every other person named Michael Jackson is just as guilty of the same thing the famous singer was

It doesnt matter to me. Jesse Mcree is a name, a name which sounds more badass than frickin "CoLe CaSsIdY"
