I’ve looked at this hundreds of times. I’ve tried all the tricks to attempt to see it the other way. I’ve changed angles, I’ve played with the brightness and saturation? I’ve even tried editing programs.

The dress remains Blue and Black.

Between 0:14 and 0:15, I see it transform from blue and black to white and gold. Weird! Does anyone else see it shift colors at that point? This is the freakiest optical illusion ever.

I promise you when this went viral many years ago, I saw the dress white and gold. And I was literally showing it to someone and IT SWITCHED COLORS IN FRONT OF MY EYES and I started seeing it as black and blue, and I've been seing it as black and blue ever since. I swear I still have no idea what happened, but it's the freakiest thing I've ever experienced. My friends thought I was lying. I wasn't :(

This dress is clearly black and blue. The closer you get to the dress, the more the camera software kicks in. It yanks up Settings like Exposure, Brilliance, Highlights, Shadows, Contrast, Brightness, Black Point and Saturation. It does so for less photons ‘fall’ into the camera due to the closeness to the dark dress. Furthermore to keep the details visible of the black and blue colour the camera changes the white point/balance to make it look more grey-ish/white-ish. That’s in natural light. This video is recorded inside a house. Regular household lightbulbs, give off so called incandescent lights. Those bulbs produce light lower down on the Kelvin scale than daylight. It’s a warmer tone than the cooler daylight tone, and it shows in the yellow/golden tint. That’s why the wall in the back gets yellow as well. Most cameras have a switch/setting to adjust for the correct light source. This prevents serious colour casts as seen in the video.

So it’s the camera that’s making it change colour and not my eyes.

When the camera shifts colours I don’t see how people still see it as blue/black. If that’s the case what’s the original colour lol

It was never white and gold for me, and the zoom-in now still doesn't turn it white and gold either, just makes the black a bit more brown.

I'm so glad to finally have closure that I was right all along 😂
