A Better Hybrid Than Corolla Cross? (Nissan Qashqai E-Power 2024 Review)

Detailed review and test of the Nissan Qashqai E-Power (Rogue Sport), including fuel economy, ride quality, pricing and more.

Nissan’s E-Power hybrid system has finally been launched in the brand’s Qashqai small SUV.

Unlike many other hybrid systems, the E-Power uses a 116kW turbo 1.3L to recharge the Nissan’s battery, leaving a sole 140kW electric motor to drive the Qashqai via the front wheels.

Benefits? We check out if there are noticeable improvements in real-world fuel efficiency and on-road comfort and refinement for the E-Power system fitted to the sole flagship Ti grade.

Price? The Qashqai Ti E-Power clocks in at $51,590 before on-roads, so the nifty petrol-electric tech does command a handsome premium over its small SUV stablemates.

In our mixed driving, the Qashqai E-Power used 5.5L/100km vs 8.5L/100km for the petrol. At $2/litre, that means the hybrid will break even around the 4.5year/67, 500km mark.

A roast of our pronunciation of Kwashkai seems inevitable

Thank you for this, we pick up our new Qashqai E Power Tekna Automatic next week in the UK, the red that has a tinge of orange look, beautiful colour, feeling excited! ❤😊

I don’t understand why manufacturers don’t allow wheel size options. Let the customer decide on big wheels for looks or smaller for ride quality.

KASH-KAI GOOD LORD! THAT KILLED ME TO LISTEN TO.

The engine working as a generator is apparently 50% efficient! That is only possible because it is running at the optimum RPM. I think this will be used in a lot more cars and boats.

Test drove the Qashqai on those big wheels the ride was definitely firm compared to the Corolla Cross.

Actually I was thinking about buying a Nissan Sentra e-power (available with a 1.2 lit NA 3-cylinder and single-speed transmission) over a Corolla as it's cheaper, more efficient and as u said quieter. But I'm on the fence about the reliability. Any recommendations?

These prices are absolutely ridiculous! Here in NZ the Qashqai electric costs about 60K! 😮 wtf
I love the looks tho, beautiful looking mini suv

I have this car! And I LOVE IT!! In the UK the top of the range is the Tekna versions, and I have the Tekna e-Power, also in blue. So my car is pretty much identical to your review car. It's Not a Small SUV though, it's medium for us in the UK.

08:00 The largest boot space on a Qashqai is actually 504 liters.

How's the visibility of the HUD with polarized sunglasses?

Be skeptical when it’s “eventually safes you money”. They could add a lot of cost (new taxes included) to it

Definitely e-power system is better than toyota, honda and other plug-in hybrid systems. I can even say much better and the best. There are only 2 issues in Nissan, first is cabin filter location, second is that everyone doesn't need sunroof.

nissan is dreaming with that price tag, and body design LOL

Why australian customers are not allowed to choose another trim? In EU we have a few trims to choose from, among them the cheeper versions (N-cnnecta) with 18'' wheels and spare one in the boot as a standard, that is optimal IMO.

No spare wheel/tire is a deal breaker for me.

Hi mate. In Scotland and most other parts of the world this model is pronounced cash kai

Isn't it a gas hog at highway speed, combining the inefficiency of a generator, a motor, and the charge/discharge inefficiency of the battery? While E-Power should do well at low speed and stop-and-go driving, I would expect it to be much thirstier than a similar size Toyota hybrid at higher speed, where the engine would be running most of the time.
