It's apples and oranges. BRICS is an economic cooperation alliance, and NATO is a mutual-defense one. On occasion, countries may get into economic cooperation with countries they don't get along with, and such is the case of India and China. In reality, most BRICS countries are interested is neutrality, and the exceptions are Russia and maybe China. Brazil would never go to war for Russia, and India would certainly not go to war for China, for instance.
