This is ONLY a temporary fix, if you can spare $20 you can save those $200+ frames by using the 3M headlight restoration kit available at most automotive stores. The only things you will use out if this kit is the 3M polishing compound and the polishing pad. It should be done by hand and will give your frames the same shine they had when first purchased. I'm certain eyeglass shops do not want this info known as the markups on frames is the largest part of their business.

I just polished my plastic lenses that had scratches so badly that it looked like it was foggy all the time. I used the polish for cloudy headlights. What a huge difference.

I love how I paid about 500 for my frames and lenses and a yr later they are turning white. Frame manufacturers are scammers.

Once the oil wears off you'll have to reapply them. There is actually a permanent fix. The white layer is the clear coat that coming off due to weather. In order to address the issue, you have to use some time of abrasion. I used Meguire's fine cut polish. Yea I know it's for car but you need some type of abrasive material that will get rid of that thin layer of clear coat. Once done, restore the shine with some type of finish. Wash with warm soap and water to remove the chemicals and voila, permanently renewed frames :)

I used olive oil and it worked. And you don't have to worry about chemicals being worn on your face.

I have had a pair of Christian Dior frames for about 10 years that I really love. I sent them in to a company in CA that restores glasses. That was about 6 years ago and they came back looking brand spanking new. I wore them for a few years and then my script changed so I got different frames. Now my script has changed again so I got these frames out of storage to use but when I took them to the shop they told me they could not use them due to the white film which actually means they are dry. I tried to get the restore shop again but now they only deal with opticians. Told me they way they do it is to soak the frame in baby oil for several days. I actually did it for 2 weeks but it did nothing this time. I think they are just too old now and are hopeless. But that what happens when you live in the desert. Everything dries out.So perhaps if anyone wants to try this just put them in a plastic bag with the baby oil and let them sit. Hopefully yours are not as old and dry as mine.

My glasses just fell on the floor and there are scratches now. They Gucci that cost over $300 that someone gifted to me. How can I remove the scratches, I know it is possible but not sure if you know.

I have not tried any of these on plastic frames, but if I had an old pair I would try a synthetic oil like Super Lube, or a great conditioner like Pecard's Liquid Leather Conditioner (works great on synthetic leatherette materials), or Nu Finish car polish. It actually contains no wax but it will polish almost anything, without leaving residue, including glass. I think any of these are worth a try but I bet Nu Finish might work best.

I tried the furniture polish and it didn't work. I done oil and its good but temporary. So I trying lip balm and I'm letting the thick balm sit on the plastic to moisten it. Its working so far.
