I've been enjoying Thor a lot. I do think they could do with letting him cancel awakening to try to shift out of combat faster if an engage turns south though. The whole GCD on his abilities, imo, makes him a little clunky at times, but when he works man does he work.

I've watched like 4 different people play Thor now and istg every single one of them has played him differently (which is a great thing for the hero I love that you can lean into many different aspects of his kit!!). The big playstyles I see emerging are prioritizing different abilities of his;
- maximizing awakening uptime (best dps, lowest survivability as you can't use abilities during or cancel awakening to get more bonus health after the 200 it gives you)
- combo'ing 3 swings into a hammer throw (consistient melee dps, good survivability but melee means you have to be careful)
- combo'ing 3 swings into a 0 charge dash to just constantly shove around and bully enemies (decent dps, huge disruption/control, decent survivability if you're smart or can keep LOS on your Strategists/Supports)
- kinda combining all of them and using each ability when it makes sense to use them (most common, probably good to be able to adapt playstyle as needed as people get better at him/the game)
_(I'm 1000% sure there's more than these, he's just only been out for like 3-4 days but these are the dominant approaches to using his kit I've seen so far)_

the dash bullying playstyle is probably the best way to use him (possibly overtuned but we'll see), although if you aren't spamming his dash off cooldown he can feel very clunky and slow and I hope they improve his QoL (buffed base movement speed/faster with more Thorforce/after the AOE or whatever way makes sense, faster movement speed while charging up the dash or during the ult, perhaps lowering the global cooldown to 0.75, etc. and if the dash is overtuned maybe make it cost 2 Thorforce and/or shift some of the distance/damage from the uncharged dash towards the fully charged dash)

Haven’t seen the video yet, just gonna leave this here since I did some experimenting with him for like an hour in the Practice Range before using him in-game 😂

Hammer Throw (or Bonk as I call it) is your highest damage ability besides your Ultimate, it deals 70 damage on a successful hit, and only 30 damage on the return, so going for trick shots with the return is more of a novelty

Your Primary swing hitbox has the same distance as the Quick Melee for all non-melee Heroes (except Groot’s 3rd melee attack in his chain because that’s a unique ground slam), and the hitbox originates from your Hero’s body, so rather than aiming with your crosshair, try to center your Hero’s body with your target and then aim with a bias to the left. If you use your crosshair to align your melee attacks, the hitbox will be to the left of your target and you won’t get the most out of the effective range. Same logic applies to Spidey and Black Panther.

Bonk and Charge generate 100 Overhealth regardless of whether you land the hit. You can just chuck the hammer at nothing to generate Overhealth in a pinch. Your maximum possible Overhealth is 200, for a total health pool of 800 at full health, unless you have a Hela on your team, who can grant you an additional maximum of 100 Overhealth for a total of 900. Overhealth granted by Hela does not decay, it has to be removed by damage. Overhealth generated by Thor’s abilities decays after 3 seconds at a rate of 7 per tick, and about 2 ticks per second. Activating another ability will pause the decay and reset the timer. Your abilities have a shared cooldown of 2 seconds, so in theory, you can have a constant supply of Overhealth by managing the timing of your casts.

Your charge deals 60 damage on succesful impact, so the ideal damage combo to take out a 250 health target is Charge - Swing Swing Swing - Bonk
An additional swing after a succesful Bonk will take out a 300 health target, and this timing is all within the 2 second cooldown window. The Charge hitbox is also a bit finnicky on sloped surfaces sometimes, because the change in terrain will make the game think that you traveled further than you actually did, so the charge ends prematurely and doesn’t make contact with the target. Charge also doesn’t register damage within the last half second or so of the animation, so although a target may be within maximum range of the Charge, the Charge won’t make contact at the very maximum distance, and you need to accommodate by moving closer to the target first. Charge also slows your movement while…eh…charging up, so casting it in the heat of a fight will make you more vulnerable.

Awakened can fire a max of 10 arcs in its duration if you spam your Primary Fire. Each arc has a misleading hitbox, if you hit a target with the edge of the arc rather than the center, it won’t inflict any damage, so accuracy is important. Each arc deals (if I remember correctly) 45 damage, so you can theoretically kill two 300 health targets in a single activation if you land every shot and the targets receive no healing.
Awakened also incurs the universal cooldown after its duration ends, so you can’t immediately activate Dome and then Awakened again back to back, which makes positioning during Awakened crucial to your survival. Once it’s over, you have no mobility for two seconds.
Awakened lasts for 5 seconds, but your Overhealth still begins to decay after 3 seconds, and you can’t cast any other abilities to get it back, so you become more vulnerable towards the end of the ability duration.

Your ultimate unleashes 5 ticks of lightning before the slam that each inflict 40 damage, for a total of 200, then the slam itself deals 220 damage, for a hypothetical total of 420 damage. The area of effect also has a ceiling that stops at Thor, so if you want the lightning to hit an airborne target, you have to be at or above the height of the target.

Yeah I used to use venom but switched to thor because of his survivability and range and mobility plus he can just abduct characters and push them off the map or in a corner while healing himself. Totally not broken at all.

I feel like when he’s spinning his hammer he should be able to start to float or get some air tell you let go of the dash

I got a code on PS5, but I play aiming games on PC. After puking at my god awful aim for a couple rounds I found Thor.

I mained Orissa in OW2 and Thor has some similar qualities! The charge and spinning spear move for peeling someone away from the group and the hammer throw and spear throw are a similar feel.

Big fan of Thor so far.
