Jackey Beavers - Love That Never Grows Old - Revilot : RV 208 (45s)
Jackey Beavers - I Need My Baby - Revilot : RV 208 (45s)

Someone once said when words don't come "let the music do the talking" but words don't fail me this time, as I feel utterly inspired by top-drawer Northern Soul.

My problem with this disc has always been which side to play, Depending of the mood of course..

At first I always went for the haunting "I Need My Baby" with those signature "Solid Hitbound" girls piercing the air with laser-sharp choruses in complete contrast the Mr. Beavers guttural desires. This after all is 100% achetypal "Detroit-Sound" complete with vibes, building guitar strums, a wall of Groovesville mastery grabbing at your heart...truly awesome.

But these days the lesser heard "Love That Never Grows Old" is totally my flavour; it's the droning army-on-the-march rhythms imprison my insides, as Jackey strengthens his voice to match the low-blown Bassoon; like an out of control boat-steamer warning of some impending disaster. Making the delicacies of "I Need My Baby" seem limp and somehow inadequate for the destruction of an all-nighter dancefloor...

the genius of Don Davis again, the master of disparity injects those Groovesville girls into the fray, razor-sharp, ear-piercing, mood-changing, attention-seeking fillies like sirens taking you to your doom. The glaring contradiction in sound is accentuated by a relentless barrage of brass, tipping Jackey over the edge; pushing him harder and harder to make his voice heard in such a maelstrom of Motor City Northern Soul.

Two sides to die for.. I'm of the opinion "Love That Never Grows Old" will rise up as the Northern Soul Leviathan it has always threatened to do.
Condition Report
The side we lead with gives up crisp playback with not a hint stylus fatigue, checkout the double clean soundfile. Under direct light revealing only soft surface hairlines when angled, but as you can hear both sides play beautifully clean and clear. Robert Beavers growling vocal, the Groovesville girls and vibes ring through loud and clear, uninterrupted. A fine clean copy . The Revilot logo on the "I Need My Baby" side the "O" has been neatly coloured in, inspect those beautiful images, of everyone's favoured label design.
