Amazon wants to ruin original Middle Earth lore by adding irrelevant lore friendly characters to the show and by pushing modern politics somewhere where they don' belong.

I think the problem with this video is that the speakers are essentially describing the function of Hobbits in the novels The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. They function as close to English gentry of the early 1900s as you can get because it was something the target audience could relate to, especially since most of the popular media would have contributors largely drawn from the upper classes.

Since they are speaking specifically about their function in those two novels, their place in the wider lore is not considered. I think using these clips to "debunk" what Amazon is doing is at best misguided and at worst intellectually dishonest. The prologue to 'The Lord of the Rings' called 'Concerning Hobbits' is essentially a whole chapter that easily dismisses the objections raised in this video and provides a whole history for Hobbits prior to their settlement in The Shire and becoming the Hobbits of the Third Age that are described in this video. That chapter also gives Amazon plenty of breathing room for depicting Hobbits differently to how they appear in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Of all the reasonable objections fans can have to The Rings of Power, I'm surprised Hobbits is making the list.

Imagine you're a black actor getting your first big break role for a franchise you grew up loving and suddenly you have an influx of your fellow fans clamoring for the show you're on to be canceled because it doesn't fit their lore. We get it, black people do not belong near this, yes, there were other races that could be considered a better fit, but this is where we are. Fans are not in control of anything and being forced to view something they love, destroyed. We all get it. Point is, people need to be sensitive to this, it's a blurry line between screaming "there were no black hobbits, even Tolkien says so, fuck this show!" and "there are other races better suited for black people in the lore, shame on Amazon for not considering that". End of the day, there's someone in a role they had no control over and certainly were not thinking of the consequences for taking it, let's please be sensitive to that.
