New Audi S3 Review - Is this nearly R1million hot hatch worth it, or should you wait for the RS3?

The new Audi A3 is a superb effort from the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer, and we've been eagerly awaiting the hotter S and RS models.

While the RS model has been revealed, it will likely only arrive in South Africa in 2022. So for now, we'll have to do with this RS appetiser, the S3.

With Audi South Africa speccing this car with over R180,000 worth of options, taking our test unit's price to nearly R980,000, we thought we'd need to answer the simple question, is it worth it?

Our video guy Ciro De Siena took the all-new S3 to the iconic Franschoek Pass outside Cape Town for a thorough shakedown and he thought it was...well, you'll just have to watch the video.

There is a serious price problem with cars lately.

Hallow!!!! It is exorbitant for a Hatchback. Jah!! Volkswagen took over the Skoda which is very cheap in the UK with the VW engine and very good looking. If you cannot afford the VW you have an option to buy a Skoda which is very good. I wish VW gives South Africans that option because VW cars are very expensive.

I have this on my short list in Australia. Price is $80k (Australian) for a pretty much fully loaded version - only thing not standard is the memory seats and mirrors, colour HUD and LED headlights. Even with Australia’s excessive luxury car tax (designed to protect a local car industry that no longer exists) that still WAY less than R1 million.

I'm a huge Audi fanatic but would definitely not buy it at this price tag.

Some of the extras you pay for come standard in cheaper cars.

Its a performance hot hatchback, but at that price, there are other more sensible options that one can go for beyond the thrilling experience of owning a hot hatchback… the Amarok V6, or even some SUV. I wouldn’t spend that much for an Audi S3
