EXPERIMENT - How to make a battery! #VoltaicPile

Every week (well sort of) I upload videos about science, history and general knowledge.

You can build your own battery out of salt, water, a few coins and washers! IT was the first battery every made, that could continuously provide an electric current to a circuit. As Alessandro Volta did in 1799 I made a voltaic pile using the same materials. And it is perfectly safe as the voltage is so low, it isn't harmful to you! You can do it by yourself following the steps you see in the video you will be able to make it too!

I wonder what it is about water or vinegar and the relationship with salt. Surely there's another mixture that's dry and does the same thing. "Electrolyte" is so vague to me.

To increase the battery life would you need to increase the surface area?

Can you dip the whole pile back into the salt solution without taking it all apart again? Or did they have to start from scratch back in the days when they were using these ???

Why do they call Michael faraday the father of electricity when actually Volta was the one who started it off. In fact Faraday studies Volta battery
