I actually disagree, for a 2.5 hour movie I thought it flew by rather fast. Really loved the movie.

For me, it's one of the best films this year. It's so good.

The film was brilliant, my favourite film of 2021 so far, I disagree, this movie severely benefited in it being told in its non linear structure in telling the perspectives from the 3 main characters, every point of view is completely different and that's the whole point, it's a film that requires your full attention or else you won't be able to understand it, i know for a fact that the last duel would be in Christopher Nolans top ten films of 2021, it deserves to be acclaimed by all filmaking ceremonies .

Considering the fact that this movie is borrowing an element out of Rashomon, one of my all-time favorite movies; I don't see the "story being told from different perspectives" thing to be a flaw.

If anything, it makes me feel even MORE excited to see The Last Duel

Jodie should get an Oscar nomination. Her scene when she is on trial was brutal. For Lady Marguairite to stand up for truth about rape despite what time she lived in was a courageous thing to do. As someone who knew nothing of the story before seeing the movie, that last fight scene is one of the best fights I have seen in a movie in recent memory. It had a perfect built up feud between Damon and Driver, and an awesome intense knight fight. However, more importantly, the stakes were high. I was emotionally invested cause we all wanted Damon to win, but not because of the rivalry itself, but because of what it meant for Jodie.

I disagree completely on the three point of view chapters. I thought it was brilliantly executed, and each chapter sucked me into the film even further. I loved seeing the differences in the character’s actions and dialogues given which perspective it was being told from, and I thought each chapter brought new and fresh scenes that were just as great as the retellings. The pacing wasn’t an issue for me at all. In fact, the 2 1/2 hours flew by because I was so engaged. The visuals were stunning, the acting was raw and powerful, and all around I really loved this film

I’m doing a double feature today too except in opposite order. Halloween Kills first and then The Last Duel. Excited for both.

I actually quite liked the story being told from three perspectives. It showed how the main individuals involved in the case perceived things differently, what their motivations were, and why they all thought they were telling the truth. I think they reused scenes minimally, only where important, and always added information we didn't get from the other perspectives. All-in-all one of my favorite movies of the year.

The movie actually really started to pick up for me when they started to tell Adam driver’s segment, and was on full throttle all the way till that badass of an ending. It really worked for me😀 but I get John’s point of view for sure too

I disagree. I felt the movie went by quick and I enjoyed the three perspectives.

I would disagree about telling the story from different perspectives. Even though they visit what to us is the same scene it’s from another character and there are differences making it unique. You’re not watching the same scene over and over. You’re watching a different scene. Sometimes there was major differences and sometime smaller differences. In some scenes the exact same lines are said but done so in a different way to convey a new meaning. It was expertly done.

The last duel is really... Wow. I didn't know what the movie is about and I came out of the theater and was shook to the core. My friend came out and started crying because the movie was too much for her. It's heavy but amazing

Bingo. I didn’t need to see EVERYTHING from everyone’s point of view.

Did anyone noticed at the very end the construction of Notre Dame church? It took 300 years to finish!!😳

Seeing this tomorrow. Thanks for the review, John. Was worried about the pacing already, so kinda unfortunate that it's the main critique of your review haha. Still gonna go into it with an open mind though

Sucks that it bombed at the box office but hopefully it becomes an oscar-nominated film

The retelling was necessary bc we could see the difference of perspective. The movie didn’t seem long at all bc it was was compelling. The actual duel was so tense and brutal I was on the edge of my seat. At times I had to look away bc of its brutality. Great performances once I got over Damon and Affleck’s modern speech. Very riveting film. Not once was I bored.

I did not get a sense of a friendship btwn Driver and Damon characters. I felt the woman who played Damons mother (a Maggie Smith type) should have had better dialogue. Positives. Driver was fantastic the "Duel" at the end is worth the price of admission

Seasoned vet move watching Halloween second, always go with the somewhat lighter fare at the end, makes the pacing of the day much easier! (I know, HK doesn't seem like lighter fare, but it is!)
